July 27, 2009This fateful day is now upon us, a day when we should all stand together to thwart, once again, another effort of this evil administration to trample upon our rights and perpetuate itself in power.
We have all grown wise, after nine editions of Mrs. Gloria Arroyo’s purported report of accomplishments, to her lies and false claims of economic prosperity and a “strong republic”. Since 2001 when she usurped power, and since 2004 when she stole the ballot, the country and our people have seen nothing but their impunity in committing crimes at the highest level, with a cabal of legislators and government officials covering it up, and an Armed Forces and National Police leadership co-opted to silence or inaction.
What is the true State of the Nation? It is this: a nation bleeding from the excesses of no less than her own fake President, the poor denied justice and a decent means to life, the critics and opponents to this cruelty either behind bars or in their graves crying out for justice.
Enough is enough. This day signals the beginning of that end. When the scourge that is the House of Representatives, whose majority have had their pockets lined already by loot from the Palace, persist in convening a Constituent Assembly to tear apart the basic law of the land that is the Constitution, then they shall have sounded the death knell for their unlawful and unjust hegemony.
RESPECT THE FILIPINO PEOPLE, ITS CONSTITUTION, AND ITS RIGHT TO DEMOCRACY!

Estrada said that President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s claims of economic gains in her Monday’s State of the Nation Address (SONA) were “fiction,” charging that she “either lied or was gravely mistaken.”
“Arroyonomics is a kind of economics that is out of touch with reality and real facts,” Estrada said in a statement.

Senators unimpressed by Arroyo’s tirades

First Posted 20:20:00 07/27/2009MANILA, Philippines – Senators expressed disgust and frustration over President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s tirades against the opposition during her State of the Nation Address (Sona) on Monday, saying she should have instead focused on how her government addressed the country’s problems.
“It’s unbecoming of the President… a cheap shot. I thought there should be no politics?” said Senator Pia Cayetano, the lone member of the new opposition group in the Senate who attended the Sona.
Senator Loren Legarda agreed, saying “It’s unnecessary. Hindi statesman yun e [That wasn’t statesman-like].”
Senator Aquilino Pimentel Jr., who boycotted the Sona, said Arroyo’s assault on the opposition only showed her insecurity.

“It was ‘glass half-filled’ speech with scant mention of the ‘glass half-empty’ part of the picture. There was no mention of corruption in government and the human rights situation. I would have wanted a more balanced presentation to complete the picture of the true state of the nation.
I seriously doubt and will check her figures on the construction of 95,000 classrooms, 60,000 teachers, eight million jobs, and two million hectares of irrigated lands. I disagree with still ‘reactionary’ policies regarding Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs).
I agree though with the following: condonation of 42 billion pesos in obligations of CARP beneficiaries; continuation of the hunger mitigation program; concentrating on revenue collection efficiency; a knowledge-based economy as the way of the future; and exploring the settlement of conflicts via talks instead of bullets, with exception of terrorists.
To be fair, masipag naman talaga siya (Pangulong Arroyo)…kung saan nga lang ginagamit ang sipag, ibang usapan na iyon. And I hope her last line meant goodbye.

Direct threat
Estrada called Ms Arroyo’s tirades a “direct threat” to those who criticize her administration.
“This is an indication of the cruelty and the dictatorship that the current administration is capable of, and another attempt by the administration to stifle our freedom of speech and expression,” Estrada said in a statement released by his spokesperson, Margaux Salcedo.
Estrada said he would not be cowed and would continue to be Ms Arroyo’s critic.
‘Cries of despair’
Roxas chose to ignore Ms Arroyo’s attack.
“I don’t pay attention to such attacks. What I am concerned with is the cries of despair of our countrymen,” he said.
In a text message late Monday, Roxas said he only wanted to drastically bring down the prices of 22 essential medicines as mandated by the law that he championed in the Senate in 2007.
“She should instead fulfill her duty to bring down the prices of medicines,” he said.
Roxas went to town castigating Ms Arroyo for earlier refusing to sign an executive order drafted by the health department on June 10 authorizing the implementation of the maximum retail price on 22 essential drugs
