Nicanor “Nick” Perlas, a reform candidate who formally declared his intentions to run for President of the Philippines had just made available for public viewing his Strategic Agenda for 2010 which will be the core of his campaign.

we sort of knew the 2010 presidential election will be marked in our history. there were many things going for it that we sensed it will be a presidential election like no other.

there are many reasons why we think that way and that will need a separate discussion all together. but here is one more reason why the upcoming 2010 presidentiable election can be a breathe of fresh air: environmentalist Nicanor Perlas well known in his circles has declared himself a presidentiable.

this is the first time a true blue green environmentalist is a presidentiable in any philippine election. and this one starts well, not as one of those that the comelec calls nuisance candidate.

his name, perlas, is a surname made in marketing heaven as that automatically connotes precious, special, of value and yes, green.

Green activist seeks presidency

MANILA, Philippines — Looking for politicians “of real qualifications” and finding none, an activist-environmentalist yesterday presented himself as an aspirant for the presidency.

By his act, Jesus Nicanor “Nick” Perlas III said he was showing his faith in not only his experience of working with farmers as well as foreign officials but also in the readiness of Filipinos to vote for change.

“There are many Filipinos who have grown tired of elections where there are no real choices. We are tired of always having to choose the lesser evil. This is why I am announcing my intention to run in the 2010 elections,” Perlas told some 50 friends and supporters at the Bantayog ng mga Bayani park in Quezon City.

Asked if he could win, he said: “Yes, absolutely!”

With that envisioned victory, Perlas said he would ensure a “tight case” against President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

“She has damaged this country so much, and I want justice,” he said.
