MANILA, Philippines—It isn’t a call to arms, but a signal to the people that they want a “moral leader” in the halls of power, installed not by extralegal means but through the 2010 elections.

That was how a reformist bloc composed of civilian professionals and active and retired military officers Monday explained the full-page advertisement that appeared in the Philippine Daily Inquirer on Monday declaring they were united “under the leadership” of detained Army Brig. Gen. Danilo “Danny” Lim.

“We are telling the people that they should consider Danny Lim as an emerging new leader, which will not be attained through extralegal means,” Ernesto Macahiya, president of one of the groups, the Guardians Nationalist of the Philippines (Ganap), said on the phone.

“We intend to nominate him for senator either with the opposition or to run as an independent,” said Macahiya, who described himself as a “retired banker.”

Lim, detained since 2006 for alleged involvement in plots to unseat President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, is “entertaining that suggestion,” according to his lawyer, Vicente Verdadero.

In a statement sent through Verdadero, Lim said: “Not one to shirk away from challenges and responsibilities, I accept the mantle of leadership bestowed upon me.”

“Other units are joining us — just wait” – BGen Danilo Lim at the start of the Manila Pen incident.

I like the general, and I thank him for his military service. It was easy for me to decide. No, I won’t support him, nor would I vote for him. Sorry. Perhaps the “other units” will whoever the hell they are, but count me out.

We’re singing and fighting and laughing… running for office…..

    Goodluck.

“Other units are joining — just wait.” – Gen. Danny Lim at the start of the Manila Pen incident.

Today is June 21, 2009. The siege ended, there was no “other units” as there was no Jamboree in Makati that day, maybe he meant more media types joining for the thrill as reinforcements. GMA remains in a position to perpetuate herself to power and, another 5 star luxury hotel messed up.

What does that say to you?

I like Gen Danilo Lim. I thank him for his military service. But its just that he has stooped that low, and I have utterly no confidence in his leadership. Look at the animals around him, we have a poltroon like Honasan, another poltroon like Gen Dominguez, a crook like Villar, and a creep like Trillanes. They do not represent me, my country or my AFP. These scoundrels represent their own interests.

I prefer Capt. Ruben Guindolbay be elected as senator or better yet as president. I would vote for this ranger officer anytime. Ruben did what he could even while Dominguez made his tactical situation worst. Kenneth and the other soldiers who died in Lamitan that day will never be forgotten. I have confidence in Capt. Guindolbay’s leadership but not all the officers standing trial with him. Sorry. I have confidence in Marine Col. Querubin and Lt Col Parcon.

    Gen Lim? I’m sorry, no.

Perhaps you are one of those cowards who failed to make a stand; shivering after what happened to Magdalo so called leaders weeping their tears and amend their way to the illegitimate president. You are nothing but an opportunist waiting for others to fight for you and just lick your way.
