bayani fernando’s metro manila uglification drive – My Eyes!!!!

this bright pink line on the sidewalks is now part of the metro manila landscape design. they are everywhere, in front of offices, buildings and our homes. it is a mystery what they are for. landing strips for pink aliens?

we were assaulted with these bright pink and blue posters of bayani fernando. they are hard to miss but a pain in the eyes to read. and an uglifier of metro manila.
we were deluged with these huge bayani fernando posters during the start of his unofficial candidacy for the presidency. the signature pink is still there but toned down. it was probably toned down as good taste, just a tiny bit probably crept into him. interesting pose, just like a rockstar. it is with controversy – he used the photo without the permission of the photographer which means the photographer did not get paid for his work.

There is nothing wrong with putting pink signs or anything. BUT putting your face in a poster to promote “Kaayusan” is wrong. Why does he need to put himself there?
those huge posters with fernando’s showbiz-like pose signaled the official “unofficial” start of fernando’s presidential campaign.
unfortunately, those posters got a lot of complaints. it was too blatant.
Aside from Fernando the following presidentiables are just as guilty:
* Manny Villar’s advertisements on radio and television, not to mention a gigantic poster on Shaw Boulevard.
* Legarda’s continued advertising on the radio and an infamous commercial months ago.
* An infamous ad by Chiz Escudero, fortunately it has been removed.
* Mr. Roxas’ “padjakitos” advertisements. (I have never seen an ad featuring the urban poor in an advertisement that unintentionally stereotypes and was a degrading to watch. I hope that would be the last.)
* Perhaps the most blatant: Jejomar Binay’s Makati City advertisements: (1) They are broadcast to the entire nation on national television. (2) One wonders why 339 is, all of a sudden, a “special” number. And a coincidence that next year is election year! (3) Binay tells the nation the paradise they will have if Makati City is the entire country so to speak with numerous promises of treats and gifts. I find his ability to keep up on that promise unbelievable considering the amount of urban poor in Makati even after decades of rule. Areas outside the CBD and the gated villages tell a much different story.
If that is not all, Binay has torn down ads of his rivals particularly those of his archnemesis Fernando, accusing them of illegal campaigning. That’s very welcome. But what is strange in all of this are the numerous “Binay be OUR next president / Binay our next Obama” posters. They were not paid by Binay (thankfully). But Binay is too reluctant and cannot resist free advertising for himself and won’t tear them down. He must be a man but he suddenly refuses to be a man. Instead he chooses to be weak and decides to be hypocritical.
FYI pink lines are placed to mark where the public sidewalk begins. This simply means that the sidewalk should be clear of any obstruction including sidewalk vendors, illegal infrastructures etc.
In case you are also unaware, sidewalks are being maintained clear from obstruction to ensure that the public can conveniently walk on the space legally provided for them by law.
Hope this information helps you better understand things. 🙂
does it have to be in ugly bright pink??? is it not possible to combine good intentions, good projects with good taste?
the color pink is used to symbolize metro manila sprucing up to be in the “pink of health.” To be in the pink of health means to be in excellent health condition.
what color would you prefer?
fernando’s puke (barf, vomit) pink is “pink of health”? nah, i do not think so.
fernando is actually a very smart man. aside from being very smart, he is a very down to earth and practical man. you can see that in the way he argues for his projects. he has an excellent grasp of what is important at a very down-to-earth level. his logic is plain, simple and sharp.
he did not choose puke pink for it’s representation of “pink of health”, he does not think that way, that is not his nature. he does not at all dwell on the esoteric.
he chose puke pink because it is a color that will stand out the most in metro manila. very few use that color. it will call attention, it will get noticed by everyone. that is why he chose that color.
he chose the color to be recognized as the man who did the most in metro manila. i actually agree with that. what i don’t agree with him on is his poor taste.
as a matter of fact “in the pink of health” is the reason behind the pink color around the metro. nothing more, nothing less.
but okay, you’ve made your point clear. you don’t like the color pink. 🙂
TAKEN FROM UR COMMENT ABOVE: “he did not choose puke pink for it’s representation of “pink of health”, he does not think that way, that is not his nature. he does not at all dwell on the esoteric.”
— HOW DO YOU KNOW HIM SO WELL? DO YOU KNOW HIM OR HAVE YOU SPOKEN TO HIM PERSONALLY? 🙂
actually, yes i have spoken to him.
my observation is also based on the tv interviews he has made and the news articles written about him.
fernando is basically a no-nonsense man of action. his thought processes are classic engineer thinking – it follows a specific logic and process. and all of that is based on a very down-to-earth view of things, specially of what is good and bad for MM residents. those are the qualities that have enabled him to succeed very well at MMDA.
it is just that he has poor taste.
yes, that’s right. for Gordon bayani!!!
Wawam, we know you are a supporter of manny villar that is why you dont want to give credit where credit is due on BF. all you see are the negatives. Here is a good news for your Money Villar…
i came across this blog post and i just want to ask everybody if this is for real or yet to be announced …
http://cherrylaurel.wordpress.com/2009/07/08/…
so does this mean, de castro has given up da big position to villar?
i am not a supporter of manny villar nor of any presidentiable.
this blog is about talking about the right things and the wrong things that presidentiables have done, are doing and will be doing that will get them elected or those that will not get them elected to be president. (click here to read first post in this blog: https://2010presidentiables.wordpress.com/2008/11/22/winning-the-2010-philippine-presidential-election-marketing-and-advertising-as-the-keys-to-success/)
we will take things as they come – if a presidentiable does something that we think will get him elected, it will be here. on the other hand if we thing a presidentiable does something that will not get him elected, we write about it too. my contributions to this blogs follow that thinking.
you are incorrect in saying i have not given fernando his due credit. read my posts on fernando in the main body and in the comments on fernando.
here is one of many examples posted in this blog:
posted here: https://2010presidentiables.wordpress.com/2009/04/29/presidentiables-as-of-mid-november-2008/#comment-645
there are many more, please read them.
The author of this blog raised hell when 17 Bayani tarpaulins with pro poor message “pantay pantay pag may disiplina” were posted in EDSA for 3 months.
But the author is so silent about the 172 M people’s contribution money to Pag Ibig Fund spend by Noli in his ads.
Is this a case of “selective righteousness”? Why is it that the author thinks that the pro poor messages are wrong but the 172 million “peoples – money – financed” ads is correct. People whose sense of righteousness is “conditional” should not be allowed to address the public.
the sense of righteousness of the author of this blog is so ugly and bad taste. ang katulad nyang “matatalinong bobo” ang nagpapahirap sa Pilipinas.
you need to get your facts and understanding right:
i did not raise hell on the tarpaulins’ message, i raised hell on bayani’s bad taste in having a very bad eye on color and color combination with his obsession with the color bright pink. he has uglified metro manila with his bright pink obsession.
i had never said the ads of de castro is “correct”. you are imagining things.
in fact the issue on ad spending by government men has been posted in this blog. read it here: https://2010presidentiables.wordpress.com/2009/08/25/10-gov%e2%80%99t-men-spent-p218m-for-%e2%80%98info-ads%e2%80%99-shoot-on-sight-says-senator-defensor-santiago/.
you have no basis for saying that, as proven in the points i raised above.
i am allowing this comment for now just to point out how wrong you are and how much of what you said here as having no basis at all except your imagination. this will be the last time i will allow comments of yours like this one. comments on issues are allowed in this blog but not about the posters or authors and specially not character assassinations and those without basis.
get your facts right and make sure you understand what you read.
I have no idea why BF keeps putting pink everywhere. Pink is for flowers and dresses, not traffic or city signs. Most city paints which is supposed to follow certain standards should be white or yellow. You can’t see pink at night specially with the tinted windows on all the cars.
His slogan of Metro Gwapo was taken to extreme when he declared himself gwapo.
I admit, his no-nonsense style is good, but his taste and propensity to promote himself through photos or his name leaves much to be desired.
The pink signs are pedestrian signs not traffic signs They were really never intended to be read by drivers. MMDA paints traffic signs usual green, yellow, red, white, blue scheme.
Yes I agree with you he does have the right style of managing government agencies. He treats his job from a technical rather than political perspective.
He lacks taste in art. On the bigger picture it isn’t that important, but it can hurt his chances of winning.
Arquenevis,
His taste in art may not seem important, but he is no better than all the politicians out there that paints their names for every project they do, like putting the names of the mayor or congressman for putting up a waiting shed, etc. That’s just plain stupid and a waste of people’s money.
Those pink paints and waiting sheds are not from the goodness of the politicians heart. They’re from the people’s wallet. They should stop wasting people’s money to promote themselves.
