Home > 2010 philippine presidential election, bro. eddie villanueva, eddie villanueva, erap estrada, gilbert teodoro, jamby madrigal, jc de los reyes, manny villar, noynoy aquino, presidentiables > time for a short list – vote for aquino, villar or gordon. don’t even consider the rest!

time for a short list – vote for aquino, villar or gordon. don’t even consider the rest!

i think we are getting closer to that time in this election where we need to make a short list of presidentiables we will consider voting in may 2010. some of us may have made up our minds but i think most are still considering who to vote. for these voters and i think they are a majority, the thing to do now is to make a short list.

making a short list now has the advantage of focus. getting down the candidates into a short list will allow us to focus on getting information on just a few of the candidates. it will save us time and effort.

for me, my short list has these names – noynoy aquino, manny villar or richard gordon, not in that particular order. i will not bother with the rest.

the approach i took in making my short list is to first decide on who among the presidentiables i do not like. that is usually an much easier decision to make than who to vote.

excluding estrada is obvious on why he should not be in the short list – he is a convicted criminal. this country should not even think of considering a criminal to be it’s president. the time of estrada specially the trial was a traumatic experience for the country. we do not need a repeat of that.

eddie villanueva, jamby madrigal and jc de los reyes are jokes in this election. for me, voting for them is wasting your vote.

why would we elect a president who is alone and does not even have a party in both houses? if they become president, with no party in both houses and no allies, how can he advance his vision for the country? he will be forever begging both houses for support of his vision and plans. to get them done, he will need to compromise and that is a very dangerous thing to do. that is the problem with villanueva and de los reyes.

i don’t even know why madrigal filed her candidacy. i think she did it just for fun or this rich kid did not have anything better to do. i won’t even waste space talking about why she should not be elected.

gordon is the odd man out in my short list. first of all he is among the laggards in the polls. i like gordon’s characters and his very smart. i admire his determination and the way he sticks to his principles.

teodoro? oh, please! not in a million years. there are so may things wrong about teodoro and it begins with himself and ends with his close association with gloria macapagal arroyo. i believe what most people think – a teodoro presidency means 6 more years of arroyo. enough is enough! we have suffered so much already behind 9 years of arroyo, getting teodoro elected means the suffering will only continue.

what is your short list and why?

what is wrong with choosing “trapos”? you are using the word as a derogaotry word while in truth only those candidates with very few support use it as some kind of excuse for their own bad performance.

any one of the three i listed will win this election.

      • January 17, 2010 at 8:08 pm

“Trapo” is not derogatory word and it is not an excuse. It is a real description to politicians who cling to the old notions of winnability during elections.
Traditional notions of winnability include money.political machinery.name recognition. and celebrity endorsements.
Noynoy is famous from his last name. Teodoro is backed by a political machinery. Villar is backed by money from being both businessman and a politician. And if voters see this as a standard. the cycle of old politics continues and it will get worse as GMA.
In contrary. new approaches to winnability include track record and platform. If anybody will know a politician based on his/her excellent track record and a complex and substantive platform. they will get excited. Money and volunteers will come by a fold. In contrary.trapos believe that money is a mean of winning an election. The only problem with this thinking is that when they exhaust their money and they lose. Saan nila babawiin yun?

  3. January 14, 2010 at 7:13 pm

Unless someone will lead us to inner change, will help us rediscover our culture and work with us nothing will change.

Lahat ng kandidato ay qualified, they all have their pros and cons in the end we the voters will decide on who to vote. The road is still long and I think we need to hear everyone out.

Gordon had done good in Olongapo and he is a doer. Villanueva also ushers a new breed in politics the same way with JC delos Reyes. All the rest are yet to prove their worth and some are seasoned trapos or just uses money politics so much.

Why am I rooting for Perlas? The answer is simple but for everybody’s sake here are my 10 reasons…

    1. Nicanor Perlas is the ONLY CANDIDATE with a complete platform.

    2. Nicanor Perlas is the ONLY CANDIDATE with a clear peace agenda for Mindanao.

    3. Nicanor Perlas is the ONLY CANDIDATE with a platform which integrates Indigenous People’s rights and protection

    4. Nicanor Perlas is the ONLY CANDIDATE which includes green principles and integral sustainable development in his platform and policies.

    5. Nicanor Perlas is the ONLY CANDIDATE which had been awarded by International bodies such as the United Nations and the Right Livelihood Award.

    6. Nicanor Perlas is the ONLY CANDIDATE which had done the impossible (Bataan Nuclear Power Plant, APEC, pesticides, etc.)

    7. Nicanor Perlas is the ONLY CANDIDATE which creates a vision for a better future of our country.

    8. Nicanor Perlas is the ONLY CANDIDATE which will give priority to agriculture and has the experience and know how to do it.

    9. Nicanor Perlas is the ONLY CANDIDATE which is not a traditional politician.

    10. Nicanor Perlas is the ONLY CANDIDATE which proposes a systemic solution to our country’s problems.

    11. Nicanor Perlas is the ONLY CANDIDATE which includes cultural revolution and inner change in his platform and program of governance.

    12. Nicanor Perlas is the ONLY CANDIDATE who advocates and practices new politics.

    13. Nicanor Perlas is the ONLY CANDIDATE which sees everyone as equal partners in the development of the country.

    14. Nicanor Perlas is the ONLY CANDIDATE which is qualified but was deemed nuisance by the COMELEC.

    15. Nicanor Perlas is the ONLY CANDIDATE which has shown political will and personal will for more than 40 years of public service.

    Opps… that was 15 🙂

1 man without a political party or even allies in congress and the senate will be inutile in running the government. that 1 man will be the most ineffective president. a president like that will be reduced to being a beggar to congress and the senate.

      • March 9, 2010 at 1:53 pm

sorry to butt in. but JC Gordon Delos Reyes, Dick Gordon’s nephew himself abhors the traditional politics and political dynasty that he belongs. ask him and he will say he is against political dynasties.

he in fact had filed graft cases against his own uncle and Dick’s brother, Bong Gordon, in the Ombudsman.

        Olongapo politics is Trapo Politics.

  4. January 14, 2010 at 7:19 pm

And Nicanor Perlas is the ONLY CANDIDATE who promotes participatory governance. He believes that we are also a part of democracy and just the government and the elite.

Gordon is indeed a Trapo – Transformational Politician, that is. If we want genuine change, we won’t hesitate voting for this guy.

He has a proven track record unlike other candidates who only bank on promises and LSS-inducing ads.

  6. January 14, 2010 at 10:57 pm

    this is an excellent point.

why would we elect a president who is alone and does not even have a party in both houses? if they become president, with no party in both houses and no allies, how can he advance his vision for the country? he will be forever begging both houses for support of his vision and plans. to get them done, he will need to compromise and that is a very dangerous thing to do. that is the problem with villanueva and de los reyes.

    • January 15, 2010 at 11:53 am

Perlas is not alone for he has the people who is supporting him and politicians elected in Congress and the Senate should decide and serve based on what is best for every Filipino and not based on political affiliation… that is New Politics. If we say that it will be impossible then we are also saying that change is impossible and therefore whatever we do the Philippines will continue to be buried in this deep problem we have…

FOR ME I REFUSE TO AGREE THAT NEW POLITICS IS IMPOSSIBLE. No one is alone if the people will back him up… a true leader relies not only on his party and politicians but more importantly on the people. If he does what is best for the people do you think no one will support him?

      • antenna1
        January 16, 2010 at 9:40 pm

who needs new politics? we just need new leaders.

  7. January 15, 2010 at 12:51 pm

If a reform-minded government official collaborates with the civil society, new politics will be easy to advance without compromising to traditional forms of politics.

If that would happen, the civil society will serve as pressurizers to government lawmakers to pass just laws.

When he can’t get allies to both Houses in passing good laws, he can turn to the civil society for help.

those are exactly the same things the other candidates have, like villanueva, they are just in much smmaller scale than the major presidentiables.

villanueva uses money, little nga lang. he has poltical machinery, maliit nga lang. villanueva ha name recognition, among his flock nga lang. he has celebrity endorsement, isa nga lang yung rap artist.

that is the problem with labels – nobody really know what they mean but those hurling it on others just feel good saying it, probe deeper what it means and they are all lost.

We already tried all kinds of politicians and yet our country is the same or even worst. Why try another politician? We don’t need another one who will just rape our country and its people. Any country has been established by God. It is therefore just right to give our country back to God. We need a person who loves the country and loves God more than anything else. Needless to say, a person with moral qualification and integrity to run a government without fear. If we say we our votes will be wasted if we will vote for Bro. Eddie, think again. I believe the opposite is true. if will not vote for him then really our votes are wasted. By the way, since December of 2009, Bro Eddie is leading in this poll.

Dear fellow Filipinos, our votes are like seed we will plant on May 10, 2010. If we vote corrupt president, then we will reap corruption in government for another 6 years. If we will vote a righteous person then we will reap righteousness in government. It is our choice. Vote wisely, vote for Bro. Eddie for the sake of our country and our children. God bless

you are generalizing that ALL politicians are bad and not good for the country.

one does not have to be a pastor to love the country and God.in fact not only pastors can love country and God. everyone else can. jose rizal was not a pastor. most of the heroes of the country were not pastors. many of them in fact were ordinary citizens and purely secular.

Antenna1 we all are looking for a rightious leaders to head our country. Though it may be right to find a rightious individual to lead may help us by example to be also rightious, the current experiences of poverty, proliferation of criminals and their criminal intent, lack of security, and the lack of education will also corrupt the rightious leader. The Filipino culture must be revised together with the form of government. The multiparty system for example is not a democracy but an abuse by those who have ways and means to buy votes for support. What we need is a leader who is thinking, who wants change and who can impose the change he see fit for the Filipinos (us). Change the form of government, change the exsisting practices and attitudes, change mentallities and beliefs and sooner you’ll find a better Philippines.

In reply to @antenna1, we all experienced the anxieties brought about by the so called directives of our leaders. And O_O is right in saying “its the form of politics” that is plundering our country. Another point to pounder is the “Pakisama” system, a culture many Filipinos have been practicing. These are the reasons why our government is not really working for the intirety of Filipinos. Though we may see the transformation, the adaptation of politicians to bend the laws favoring themselves in a very obvious fashion, we all trive to support those who we believe will provide benifit to us. So, what do we do? The oppurtunity to vote for a president who will be honest enough to carry the torch of changing the form of government may as well be in our mind these coming May election. Not for economic reason, but for the whole system to change. Change the form of government so that oppurtunism will not enjoy any place in the governance of our country.

ang gagaling ninyong lahat mag-isip at manghusga. what we all need to do is to know the presidentiables better before judging them. also, we need unity in order to help the 15th president lead this country in progress. hindi naman pwede na dahil lang sa magaling yung taong yun o maka-Diyos o wala pang record o marami nang nagawa o kung ano pa mang pinagsasasabi niyo dyan. ang kailangan natin e piliin nang maayos ang susunod na presidente kahit na sa tingin niyo ay walang pag-asa na ang bansang ito. o sa tingin niyo ay sasayangin niyo lang ang boto niyo dahil lang sa hindi siya kilala. what if marami pala kayong naka-isip na iboto siya. coz it all starts with a single vote. but for me, my short list includes villar, aquino and IS considering perlas.

“A new Philippines will emerged as the AMERICA OF ASIA.” Wow!!!

Janet, why America? Do you know the current financial woes of America? Or the depth of its moral decline? Or is it just that your brand of Christianity is patterned after America?

Have christians become this shortsighted and carnal?

Let us all go back to the simplicity of Christ. This is what His kingdom, and its fulfillment, is all about. ” A cup of water, anyone?…”

Hello Mr. Tim, correction, when I says America of Asia, it means that we can be one of a prosperous nation like them who can give decent jobs to Filipinos who work especially in America and someday can go back home again when God will bless our beloved nation. As the saying goes,” there is no place like home’, though, they may have financial woes or there is moral decline and other unforseen liabilities thay have, I am not saying it will be thesame in all circumstances. However, as the Philippines has so much woes of its own at the moment, I believe, there will be a day, God will open the storehouse of His bounty or rich blessings to our beloved nation. With regards to the pattern of my living, I am fully patterned to my loving Saviour, who fully give his life for you and me. God said ‘I came that you might have life and have it more abundantly. Why would we settle for ‘a cup of water’ when God wants to bless all loving Filipinos with His wonderful blessings. Yet, after all it may depend upon how you live your life at this end times. I thank God He is always walking alongside the Christian who constantly trust and depended in Him. Still we believe that by selecting a best leader to lead our nation, their will be a chance that we can thrive much better than other rich countries of the world. BRO. EDDIE VILLANUEVA FOR PRESIDENT 2010. GOD BLESS.

“when I says America of Asia, it means that we can be one of a prosperous nation like them…”

America, prosperous? Now there is a wonderful claim. Read about their economy, janet, and you will realize America is like us already. And we are becoming like them in morality, too. Crime also. Need i site more? Well hey! the prophecy of 2004 is already happening. We are already the America of Asia. Its bad side, that is.

Life abundant in Jesus, Janet, is not about money. His disciples, the primary recipient of his “abundant” statement were very far from the prosperous people in your mind. And yet they have abundant life.

Let me disabuse your heart from the poison of this prosperity gospel from your American evangelists and prophets…

The hope of this nation doesn’t rests on leaders, janet. It rests on YOU…

If only you don’t bring your religious bias in campaigning…

Calling all supporters of Gordon and Bayani:

I would like to kindly encourage you to act as soon as possible in our support for our candidates. kasi as the election comes nearer, the smaller the chance gets that we can convince people to pick the right choice and inform about Gordon and Bayani’s achievements and qualifications. be more assertive. Encourage people by talking to your relatives, friends and workmates. be active in participating social networking sites as facebook or friendster and show your support. don’t be afraid of people’s negative judgement of your involvement to the election. Remember, that we are the smarter people because we are taking the smarter decision by voting for the smarter candidates. This is for the sake of our country’s future. in the end, whether Gordon and/or Bayani win or lose, we knew we exercised our right to vote responsibly and we did our best to help other people make the right decision. i guess that will be the greatest consolation that we will get as citizens who dreamed a better future for our beloved nation.

I am for the Transformers. I don’t care about the surveys, I will vote for them. Why? Because I know that they can perform well. Both of them do not just have the vision but also the action that accompanies it. We can base it on their track records. Gordon did an amazing job in Subic and Bayani in Marikina. If you guys are also watching the forums that they have participated, Gordon and Bayani are among the smartest and the most articulate. I also admire Gibo because of his intelligence. However, I have not heard so much about what he has done and the fact that he is the candidate of the administration, I would not vote for him.
Noynoy is not an option for me because I didn’t see any desire that he badly wants to lead the country. He was uncertain whether he will run or not. We do not need a leader who needs to be pushed before doing something and we do not need a leader who cannot make his own decisions. Of course, he does not have the records. He kept on saying that he is not trying to boast things that he has done but the reality is he was not able to something commendable. Let’s say that Noynoy is very honest but he is surrounded by the “trapos” then nothing will really happen to our country. Of course, Villar will never be part of my list. I just hate the publicity. It’s just so annoying and he looks so desperate.
If you like Gordon-Bayani, please vote for them without thinking about their chances of winning the elections. Win or lose, I will vote for them because I want to stand up for what I believe is right. If all their supporters would vote for them without considering who’s popular, there might be even just the slightest chance of them winning the elections.

I am for Gordon as well. What we need is a ruler who can make people think and act- with right timing and practical vision. It’s enough that we’ve had passive Presidents in the past.

We need REAL CHANGE. Let us encourage our family, relatives, friends, acquaintances, and strangers on voting for the Bayani-Gordon tandem!
