noynoy aquino on the cover of time magazine – a preamble to winning the election?

noynoy aquino has not won the election yet, the campaign is still on going and yet he is already at the cover of time magazine. that says a lot about the aquino campaign.

no other presidentiable has been featured on the cover of time magazine and that from a marketing standpoint is a coup of great proportions over his rivals.

the article is fair, balanced and very realistic. it captures very well the true nature of the aquino campaign both it’s good and bad sides. over and beyond that, it recognizes that aquino is the front runner in this election.  and that is probably one of the primary reasons why they chose to feature aquino over the others. time magazine most likely thinks aquino will soon stop being a front runner, being  poised to win the election.

putting aquino on it’s front cover scoops the other magazine and gives them a good starting point to have another cover feature for aquino when he wins the election.

from a marketing standpoint, this is very good bragging rights. time magazine is a prestigious magazine but it’s circulation among filipino voters is very limited. he can however use this as a talking point in his speeches to the people.

it also gave aquino a little bit of media mileage as the newspapers and tv newscasts put on the front pages and headline news on tv.  it has been worth at least a day’s media coverage. that is very good given that he really did not have to do anything to get the media mileage.

with a day’s good media coverage, the masses where most of the voters belong to should have been exposed to it. they might not be able to read the article but they would have seen aquino’s photo on the cover. they would be impressed as they most likely know what time magazine is.  that will give aquino a bit of a plus. “sikat si noynoy!” is probably a common reaction.

there is also something to notice in the fact that aquino was chosen over all the other eight presidenitables. it  might be small in value, but it is still of some worth that he has something the others do not have. an election is just like a competition, getting an edge even on the small things can count at the finish line.

as it usually happens, will newsweek be next?

the weak foundation wrought in by the aquino administration, starting with the 1986 constitution, laid the tomb of uncertainties which now engulf the land. no single leader much less a weak candidate like noynoy could save the country from its political and economic woes. it still is the filipino people who should rally against the condescending aquinos, who will never cease just to protect their interests and cover up the shambles began by the cory aquino lameduck governance.

Please lang. This is adding insult to injury. The world is already laughing at us for allowing Erap to re-run for President. Now, we are going to have a PRESIDENT ABNOY!. It runs in the family… What proof do you still need! We have to leave the “ghost” of Marcos dictatorship and EDSA revolution. This to me has been very counterproductive. We as a nation have to move on! Yes, Cory has done that. But to have another Aquino or administration will be very costly for the Filipino people. Tama na! Sobra na! No Aquino na! Let us start with the premise that all candidates currently running has the genuine interest of caring for the people. Yes, this is hard to do but this is the only way to move forward. Let us release ourselves of the fear of corruption, dictatorship and mistrust. Assuming then that this is equal or given, then the next step is to choose the candidate that has the best credentials. Ito, in my opinion, is the New Filipino. Let us trust the system… Let us trust ourselves… Let us decide based on the fundamental strength of candidate.

Aquinos have the PURE heart / simplicity / integrity to govern our ailing nations .. just what Ninoy had started – its his self sacrifice that free us from dictatosrship .. knowing that his life is in danger but he chose to come back to his native land and he did fell by assasin bullet – but he did not die in vain for in his death nagising tayong mga Pinoy para ipaglaban natin ang pagmamalabis ng isang gubyerno nuon at isinilang ang People Power I at nakilala tayong mga Pinoys sa buong daigdig – na sa PEACEful means eh maari tayong magtagumpay pamunuan tayo ng mga tao na karapat dapat sa ating pamahalaan. – and this is what we forgot .. mabilis tayong mga pinoy na lumimot lalo na sa mga nagawang maganda ng isang tao or pamilya sa bansa natin.. pero yung nakagawa ng mali mabilis din nating makalimutan… bagkus iniinsulto pa natin yung mga Aquino.. for me they will be here as long as there are Tyranny / oppressives / and wrong doing in the Government in this country.. pasalamat tayo at may mga Aquino pa na handang mag alay ng buhay para sa ating inang Bayan…si Cory was never a lameduck president for his is a Transition president; restoring our Democracy anf Freedom of the Press kaya malaya tayong nag uusap ngayon.. she survives so many coup attempts during her administration.. and never hid under her bed.. kaya sana wag nating mamaliitin ang mga nagawa ng mga Aquino’s sa Bayan at maari pa nilang gawin.. “If the Americans have Kennedy’s , then we Filipinos have the Aquino’s” you may ask TIME Magazine why they have chosen Noynoy to be their cover on this April issue over the other candidates…

hahahaha…pls don’t compare the testing of coliform bacteria in boracay and the wise decision of the voters to vote. they are too far different, the behavioral activity of the coliform bacteria are just the same in a certain habitat but can you read the heart and mind of the people?(THEY CHANGE EVERY MINUTE).
eveybody can do something for our country, but that doesn’t mean they are good presidents. but if you are telling us to choose between the 2 front runners, you’re such a big jokes. it’s because we are just wasting our votes to the pigs. the reasons why Philippines were left behind from other countries because of the mindset of the people like you. there are many brilliant politicians who are good in governance AND experienced, yet they let somebody who is more popular (because here in the philippines nowadays if you’re not popular, you can’t win and our elections is always a POPULARITY CONTEST) than them to run as president.
Remember tita cory( a plain housewife), when ninoy was assassinated, did the brilliant politicians at that time attempted to run against marcos? but they let the widow of ninoy run instead, it’s because the brilliant guys knows that most filipinos are very sympathetic, very emotional( and emotionally unstable). kaya ang nangyari, kaliwa’t kanan na kudeta ang narasan ni tita cory(kawawa naman).Too far different from ate glo, kaya lang nasobrahan sa pangungurakot. History repeats itself. DI BA KAMAMATAY LANG NI TITA CORY, and ONCE AGAIN FILIPINOS WERE EMOTIONALLY HIGH(parang adik)kaya ayon, sumigaw agad sila(WE WANT NOY TO BECOME OUR PRESIDENT) He wILL be just elected tru sympathy and emotional outbreak, and not because FILIPINOS ARE MATURED ENOUGH AND WISE VOTERS to proved noynoy’s COMPETENCE, GOOD GOVERNACE AND STRONG LEADERSHIP…GANYAN BA SA PINAS PABALIK-BALIK NA LANG. KAYA NGA PARA MAPUTOL ANG BISYONG ITO(popularity votes) MERON tayong alternatibo…
IBINOTO KO SI TITA CORY NOONG 1986 ELECTIONS (i was 20 y/o at that time), ibinoto ko si RAMOS sa 1992 ELECTIONS, IBINOTO KO SI ESTRADA SA 1998 AT IBINOTO KO SI ATE GLO SA 2004, EH ANONG NANGYARI SA ATING BANSA?
HAHAYAAN NA LANG BA NATIN MAGING GANITO PALAGI ANG ATING BANSA?

pagmamalasakit: Hacienda Luisita Massacre & C5 Massacre.. Oh please! That’s something! If noynoy doesnt have a mental problem, he should have considered Villar’s challenge to have a Psych test. There was something that I read sa isa sa mga comments ng mga tao na sabi ni Noynoy: He will take a Lie detector test, wag lang Psych test. Diba? What is he hiding?? And bakit kelangan tingnan pa ni Cholo yung sarili nya, eh hindi naman sya yung magrurun as candidate?

Si Noynoy & Mar ang pagkakatiwalaan? Sus.. Noynoy was in the senate/congress for 12 years. His job was to pass bills para umunlad ang Pinas. Ni wala nga syang nagawa eh.. 8 bills for 12 years. Isa pa sa bill nya is Tarlac City day??

Noynoy is a good person, but he is not as qualified as you think he is. Grabe lang ang pagka-bias ng media that they don’t cover the cons of noynoy. I hope you choose the best candidate na qualified to run the country.

DID WE REALLY USE OUR MIND, INTELLECT AND WILL TO CHOOSE OUR PRESIDENT OR are WE JUST SWAYED BY OUR ON AND OFF EMOTIONS?

First of all, I am not for Villar. Second, HL connection with Noynoy:

      Noynoy Connection

Hacienda Luisita has remained an issue for the late former president Cory Aquino and her son, current presidential candidate Noynoy Aquino, for their rejection of calls to let go of the property and conflict of interest. Land reform was a major issue during Cory Aquino’s presidency as she pushed for its national redistribution while many believed the stock distribution program was an excuse for his family to remain in Hacienda Luisita, not knowing that at that time many among Don Pepe’s old farm workers believed in President Aquino’s good intentions and therefore agreed to the stock option.

Noynoy Aquino has expressed the opinion that it would be better for his family to give up their rights to the estate, stating that as long as they were involved, the issue of land redistribution there would always be politically-colored.

      [2]
Nonoy Aquino himself owns a little more than 280,000 shares of Luisita stock or barely 3% of the company which is currently valued at 15 million pesos, or approximately 325,000 American dollars.

It is still partly Noynoy’s faults because he is still an owner of HL. & read this:

Whenever the public questions Noynoy Aquino about the heinous event, he defends himself by saying that he merely owns four percent of the business controlling Hacienda Luisita which implies that he has little control over matters that concern it. He adds by saying that it is his desire that his family gets out of Hacienda Luisita, but it is not, nor ever will be, his decision to make for them.

The senator’s stand on the matter is met by skepticism from his critics and opposing parties who believe that he cannot hide the fact of his involvement in the entire thing. It has been pointed out that the candidate has actively defended the interest of his family in the property. He even supported the position of the Hacienda Luisita’s management who claim that the atrocity was necessary and a legitimate exercise of state power that worked against an illegal, communist-inspired activity, and, as confirmed by Vice Governor Rolex Suplico, defended it on the floor of the House of Representatives when he held media interviews back then.

      Vote wisely!

Total Turn-off. Well I see that in six months (assuming he gets elected as President) Noynoy would succumb to tremendous mental and psychological pressure. He will eventually step down as due to mental incapacity and eventually transfer power to Mar Roxas. This is then the sweet poetic justice for Mar Roxas, who is far far more capable of being the President. We will be again the laughing stock of the world. But what the heck… As we always say “ONLY IN THE PHILIPPINES”.

huh? what are you talking about? you are not making sense. alam mo, the problem is that you always associate noynoy with what his parents did. NOYNOY is not NINOY, and he will never be as great as his dad was! anyway, ang gulo mo kausap. ang raming sinasabi, wala namang laman. ok. go, boto mo si noynoy mo. i know who will i vote for, and i believe he is the best candidate. pinagaralan ko na silang lahat, lahat sila may flaws, pero from what i see, hindi nagstastand out si Noynoy. Pangit naman if puro bait lang ang ibebase natin sa future president, dapat may nagawa na sya para sa pinas, ginagawa nya ang trabaho nya ng mabuti. kaya nastustuck yung “mama & papa” kay noynoy kasi instead na ang focus ay nasa kanya, laging nasa magulang nya. sige na po, go vote for him. goodluck this coming elections! btw, totoo ba na ang ampatuan is for noynoy? binalita kasi sa tv. i hope not. sige. ingat!

Well I will admit that I am 110% abnoy kaya nga I will DEFINITELY vote ABNOY for President! It goes beyond reason that we believe that the other candidates are corrupt, that the political system is obnoxiously stinky and rotten, truly sagad to the bone and that the results will be rigged unless of course si ABNOY ang mananalo. Sinong dakila… Sinong tunay na baliw. TAYONG PILIPINO. If we believe that the candidates are corrupt, that we cannot trust the current political system, that the elections will be a total failure. Why vote. Let’s just go to the street and enough of this election. If we believe otherwise, let’s all take an objective look and be a matured voter. Please lang, this dilemna has going for more than 25 years. The fundamental change will not come from the candidates kundi sa tamang pag-iisip nating mga botante. We the Filipino people (and taxpayer for that matter) are the ultimate stakeholder. The President is not the boss but the lead servant of the people. Let us choose a trustworthy servant.

How sure are you na trustworthy sya?

  21. Kris Aquino
    April 21, 2010 at 10:01 pm

Tama ka dyan bro… Trustworthiness goes beyond knowing the person. Ikaw ba pag-ooperahan ka sa puso and your best friend (who is not a doctor) says “trust me, i will operate your heart”. You’re out of your f**king mind! One critical ingredient of trustworthiness is COMPETENCE (technically, mentally and physically and to a certain degree financially). Financially kasi, if you a somebody who relies on your “Sister” for your grocery, what more for the whole nation to rely on their stomach. ABNOY will definitely be not corrupt BUT the people around will definitely be. It’s not that ABNOY is clean, it’s just that he doesn’t have the mental and psychological maturity to have lead his life. And I pity him because he under tremendous pressure to run for president. Deep inside himself, he would rather live under the care of his sisters.

DESTROYING AQUINO INCLUDING ROXAS is a sign of nervousness on the part of other candidates.

these are evil forces which should be stopped thru our prayers for them. let us counter them thru our spiritual warfare.

TULOY ANG LABAN EVEN AFTER THE ELECTIONS. THOSE CORRUPT ONES SHOULD BE RUN AFTER AND BE IMPRISONED. CORRUPTION IS VERY MUCH RAMPANT CAUSING US TO SHAME TO MANY PARTS OF THE WORLD.

WE ARE IN THE “MOVEMENT FOR AQUINO-ROXAS” (MAR). AGAIN, TULOY ANG LABAN. election is nearing. forces of evil seemed to running high. the best weapon against evils are for us to pray, fast and observe abstinence. we appreciate other ecumenical groups, and let us join with them for a craving quest for HOPE, Honest, Orderly, Peaceful election.

    the.truth :
merong dalawang qualified..si Gibo at si Gordon.. BAsed on achievements, si Gordon, based on character, it’s Gibo. Dick has the brain & the balls. Gibo has the brain, the balls, & the Heart! kaya ako rin, kay Gibo ako!:)

gibo based on character? hahahaha he is the puppet of gloria macapagal arroyo. ano yun, ugaling ahas!

  24. Kris Aquino
    April 25, 2010 at 2:00 pm

So, mga ibang opportunistang politiko took advantage of ABNOY. You run for President at kaming bahala sa iyo. DEEP INSIDE HIM HE KNOWS THAT HE IS FAR MORE QUALIFIED THAN ABNOY pero nag-paubaya siya dahil sa partido?! Mar, you got to be kidding me. Kaya ka na-iinsertion ni Pimentel.

Common guys let all be honest to ourselves – CLEARLY GINAGAMIT LANG DIN SI ABNOY BY OTHERS TO PUSH FOR THEIR POLITICAL AGENDA. And the danger is that ABNOY is just to naive to decide on who he will trust (except of course for Kris – dahil si Kris ang nagbibigay ng pera pang-grocery). At least yung ibang kandidato may sariling paninindigan at BAYAG.

There is no free lunch in this world. Everything is a cost. ABNOY’s bid for presidency means payback for political favors, whether he likes it or not. Same is true with Villar, Gibo, and the other candidates. We cannot completely do away with it but at least we can lessen it. Since we are Pinoy – let’s assume that all candidates (including its political parties) are corrupt and that the Phiippine political system stinks, probably the next best thing to do is to elect a president based on PROVEN competence and leadership. Since we cannot elect a saint or an angel, let us select a LESSER EVIL.

we have learned from other newly-created chapters of MOVEMENT 4 AQUINO AND ROXAS (MAR) validating and giving credence to SWS and PULSE ASIA SURVEYS that AQUINO IS NUMBER 1, ESTRADA, NO. 2, VILLAR IS NO. 3 AND TEDORO IS NO. 4. Based in our received reports from MAR cHAPTERS in Mindanao. We are seeking divine intervention that these scenarios will not happen. The way we say things, Noynoy and Mar victorious na. DAYA LAMANG ANG MAKAPIGIL SA KANILANG PANALO. Take note of our reading. This is based in our information-gatherings in other areas.

We are also receiving informations, which we will try to document that there are evil forces wherein Barangay Officials (not all) are now intimidating voters in their areas just to vote for candidates they wanted. This is evil.

    Kailangan magbantay tayo.

GOD BLESS AND SAVE THE PHILIPPINES.

Noynoy might suffer the same brunt of People Power rev which catapulted Cory into a miracle of power. That is, if he wins the 2010 elections, and later is found out to be suffering from a mental malaise. How poor then the Filipinos would be if the ‘yellow hypes’ prevails? Couldn’t we, as voters, think out of the box?

Si ABNOY ang GREATER EVIL! At bakit, he knows that is not capable of being a president… Up to now he cannot put up a family because he is always under the care of his mother and sisters. Takot sa obligasyon. I mean kitang-kita naman di ba. And he is in this ego-trip that he is the solution to the Philippine problem! And every day, he starting to believe this. The day of reckoning is when he becomes president. He thinks that will be able to lead the Philippines. Well, he will just laugh at ALL of us because hindi sya ang pumilit sa ilagay sya sa pwesto. Voters for ABNOY, we truly understand your crave for change but the change should come from all of us to matured and trusting voters. All of the candidates are against poverty, corruption at maka-diyos! At ang Diyos, sad to say, hindi maka-kandidato. Otherwise, we will have JC as the president.

I am 50-year old housewife who had worked in a government corporation and finished MBA. What I dislike about foreign media(magazines and broadcast)is their seemingly biased thinking about the country and the Filipinos in general. Like this recent issue of putting only one candidate on the cover despite so many presidential aspirants. Are they influencing the minds of the Filipinos again? Hope we will not be a chaotic society after their favored candidate wins, just like the other countries. Likewise, this goes through with the “Filipino elite” who have seemingly the same mindset. I believe that we should let the masses decide for a change as “people power” or the “elite power” has put the country at the bottom of the “flying geese” model of the World Bank, where we used to be second at the top. Even, the former Minister Lee Kuan Yew of Singapore once said in an article that with this “people power” where we put inexperienced “president”, our country back tracked by 6 years. That’s why, for me despite some negative points being thrown at Villar, he is still the most qualified because what the country needs now is an experienced politician with an entrepreneural spirit. He is quite simple because of his humble beginnings but was able to enter the top school, University of the Philippines. He also has a nice family and honestly, looks presidential with his good looks, too…The Philippines has no time for a “practicing President” right now. We are so lagging behind our Asian neighbors!

Villar is much better than Noynoy coz he did his job, however, I don’t want him to be the next president because for all I know the large amount of money he spent over his campaign ads will be regained back to him as soon as he will be president. I say he should still have a position in the government for his business-related skills that he has, as for Noynoy, “thanks, but no thanks”.

thanks but no thanks for villar. a filipino needs no mba before establishing the fact who really deserves his vote. he served long in congress, but he had never thought of alleviating the misery of the million poor. ah! your infomercials reek of hypocrisy. your campaign color is stained with the corruption earned during his track record. even in the highest portal of the legislature, he deprived the entire nation of truths with the grandstanding elitism privileged by his being a lawmaker! again, thanks but no thanks for villar. think with your eyes open wide.

eveybody can do something for our country, but that doesn’t mean they are good presidents. but if you are telling us to choose between the 2 front runners, you’re such a big jokes. it’s because we are just wasting our votes to the pigs. the reasons why Philippines were left behind from other countries because of the mindset of the people like you. there are many brilliant politicians who are good in governance AND experienced, yet they let somebody who is more popular (because here in the philippines nowadays if you’re not popular, you can’t win and our elections is always a POPULARITY CONTEST) than them to run as president.
