why will richard gordon lose this election?

on theory, richard gordon is a good candidate for the presidency. he is a known achiever with an excellent and highly impressive success credentials from his work at olangapo city, the rehabilitation of subic bay and his work as tourism secretary. he has no  corruption or any other scandal baggage that pulls him down or that others can use against him. in fact none of that appeared during the election. or perhaps his opponents did not find the need to bother with gordon.

and that is where the problem of gordon’s candidacy lie – nobody wants to bother with him. it is in many ways the reason why he will lose this election.

gordon is a smart man. he speaks very well, he knows the issues and offers interesting solutions to problems he sees. but he has no audience for these things. very few listens to him.

why will gordon lose this election?

  • he started late in the campaign. it felt like he did not tell anyone he was planning on running for the president in this election. this is an election that started very early, by the time he announced his candidacy, his competitors, villar, aquino and estrada in particular were already way ahead of him in getting the people to form a support based for themselves.
  • gordon has no constituency. he is an elected senator but he may have lost that political base through the years and as how it is in politics, voters who voted for a candidate as a senator does not automatically translate to a vote when the same candidate runs for the presidency. the criteria changes and the thinking process applied by the voters is re-invented.
  • gordon is very much a lone wolf. gordon may have a very loud howl compared to some of the presidentiables and the his peers at the senate but he does not belong to a pack. he operates too much on his own and that is an automatic weakness for someone who is running for president.
  • gordon has an obnoxious personality. he sounds smart all the time but over and above that, he comes off as obnoxious and a real ass hole. that is a turn off among many voters across all demographics and most specially for the bulk of the voters, the CDE. a minimum requirement for this set of voters is a likable personality if not a charming one.
  • he had very little funds for his advertising and other marketing and communication efforts. aside from the historical value of this election, this one will also go down in history as one of the most expensive. manny villar started his campaign and spending many centuries ago, way ahead of everyone else. not having funds is a definite killer in this election.  we live in a world if mixed media and communication channels. funds is a prerequisite for success.

these are things that gordon should have realized as he was making his decision to run for president. too bad with all his smarts and eloquence he failed to see them.

I read the your blog, and i beg to differ! Sobrang subjective ng mga points and opinions mo.I would like to ask you? Who could better lead this country than Gordon himself? What say ye?

Dahil daw late nagstart? He feels that is the perfect time to announce his campaign, maybe he is waiting for a vice president, didn’t that idea struck you for a second?

No Constituency? Mind you!Andyan ang BagongBayan!andyang ang mga Volunteers!…

Lone Wolf?

Obnoxious personalty? My president speaks his mind! He does not sugar coat issues or events, he say it as IS? HE DOES NOT LIE, HE DOES NOT SAY WHAT PEOPLE WANTED TO HEAR IF THE SITUATION CALLS FOR IT! And he is not sorry for saying what is true, coz he believe that the TRUTH CAN SET US FREE!

VERY LITTLE FUNDS? True! but think of it this way,a lot of people have volunteered, they gave their time, effort and monetary assistance to his campaign!I’m one who donated! I might not know how much was spent for his campaign but i believe he did not spend much dahil ayaw nyang may tanawing utang ng loob sa ma Aristocrata ng Pilipinas! My President believes that its not a popularity contest neither a celebrity showdown!

Try to calibrate your ideas first before you post.

no other presidentiable speaks as forceful as he. he has something, no, a lot of things to boast for. look at his credentials. no one else comes close.

he calls it as he sees it, no sugar-coating, no presumptions. if he were my friend, it would be “tough love”.

i’m proud i painted the town RED yesterday.

“he started late in the campaign” – he actually started ON TIME. Villar started his centuries ago. Noynoy started his with the “Ninoy Ako” crap followed by taking advantage of the people’s love for Cory. Gordon started and followed what was laid out in the Election rules. Villar and Noynoy DID NOT.

“Gordon has no constituency” – if by constituency means having a herd of non-thinking individuals then certainly Gordon has NO constituency. Gordon relies on volunteerism which means INDIVIDUALS ACTUALLY THINK and DECIDE to act. Noynoy’s and Villar’s constituency are made up of people who believe that surveys DECIDE the election so their respective teams do everything in the book even pulling out their dirty bag of tricks to condition the minds of zombies (people who are NOT thinkers)

“Gordon is very much a lone wolf.” – Of course. He is his own man. Noynoy is his relatives man. Talk about Danding and Peping, now Joe de Venecia threw his support behind him. Guess what that means? For TRAPOS, political support = kickbacks, favors AFTER elections. Gordon operates on his own thus making him able to DECIDE without external influences and personal motives.

“Gordon has an obnoxious personality.” – if by obnoxious you mean SAYING the things that NO OTHER CANDIDATE is willing to say for fear of losing votes then Gordon is TRULY OBNOXIOUS. He says what needs to be said. Onion skinned be damned. Most importantly, he does things that NEEDS TO BE DONE. Noynoy and Villar are not obnoxious candidates. They’re sweet talkers. Mind you, OBNOXIOUS people tell things as they are while SWEET talkers FOOL YOU again and again and again.

“he had very little funds” – a candidate should win based on MERITS not based on HOW MUCH you are willing to spend. Candidates, like Noynoy and Villar, who spend hundreds of millions running to billions of pesos will SURELY GET THOSE FUNDS BACK in whatever means. CORRUPTION, KICKBACKS, FAVORS from supporters and backers. Gordon didn’t spend a fortune that’s why he won’t have to recoup them steal from the people.

To sum it all up, there is ONLY ONE REASON WHY GORDON WILL LOSE THE ELECTIONS. Guess why?

It is because of people, LIKE YOU, who do not use their brains in choosing the best candidates. It is because of people, LIKE YOU, who think that money, start power, dirty tricks, smiling face and wealthy financiers SHOULD win you the Presidency and not QUALIFICATIONS, SERVICE DONE TO AND FOR THE COUNTRY, INTEGRITY, ACTION PLAN / PLATFORM, PASSION and POLITICAL WILL.

It is because of people, LIKE YOU, that the Philippines is still in a sorry state and will continue to be in for the next 6 years if and when Gordon loses this election.

I pity you. I hope you can be proud of what you value in your life. God bless the Philippines.

I voted for G1BO and Im a proud Filipino!! lahat ng aspeto ng isang magaling na presidente nasa kanya.

I campaigned for him in whatever way i can, this pass few weeks, in facebook, in friendster, even in online games, in youtube. Does noynoy and villar have that supporters?? My dad is noynoy, my brother and mother is villar, why did i chose Gordon?because i know it’s not a good choice, but it’s the best choice.

in every forum i state my case why not Gordon, why not him? combine noynoy and villar’s achievement and it’s nothing. i don’t believe what they say “sayang ang boto mo dyan hindi yan mananalo”. I will never regret I voted for him even if he loses, because the only way you could waste a vote is by voting not with you heart but with your assumptions, doubts, and senseless judgments. I believe in him, whatever they say against him will never clog my mind.

No offense meant to the commenters, the article is not about Gordon’s competency, it’s about Gordon’s chances of winning. Intindihin mo ngang mabuti! Para kang hindi supporter ni Gordon eh!

I guess the Filipino voters are not yet mature politically. We are indeed a Kakistocracy!

To “Guest”, the article is pure crap and I stated why the reasons provided by the author of the article is crap as well.

A candidate’s chance of winning shouldn’t be dependent on those factors and anyone, and I mean ANYONE, who says those reasons are valid arguments why Sen Gordon will lose is doing himself and his country a disservice.

If you are going to keep that mentality, i’m not too sure where the country will be headed. If these are the candidates running for US Presidential race only a few will be allowed by their parties to run. Gordon, Perlas, Gibo and probably Villar. Not Estrada and certainly NOT ABNOY.

If you don’t understand what I meant with my previous post then I’m not sure you do understand Sen. Gordon and his visions for the country.

Well, I guess, whatever xyz123 wrote here is based on what [he thinks] majority of Filipino voters think a presidentiable should be or should do in order to win.

      May 10, 2010 at 11:17 pm

As of now, “majority” are those who believe that Gordon will lose this election because of what xyz123 wrote. And sad to say but right now, WE ARE THE MINORITY! T_T

The analysis above is acceptable. Gordon will lose and all the reasons mentioned are precisely why.

PinoyForGO, “theory” and “reality” are two different animals.. In real elections, the above mentioned “assertions” are true. Wake up and let us try to do something about it.

I am for Gordon too. c”,)

i don’t give a f**k what people may think of me. .it’s true that only the truth will set us free, and that’s what Gordon wants us to do, we need to wake up and face the reality.

The reason why Gordon lose this election is not because of him,but because of the voting public. Majority of our voters vote for flimsy or without any good reasons.Majority of the voters vote on whom who is leading on the surveys or who is most likely to win. Majority of the voters are the culprit . Majority voters must change its mindset. And the majority of our voters are in the poverty line. Poverty exerts pressure on the hearts and mind ,that voting wisely and voting by principle is the least of their concerns. They go for sympathy, utang-na-loob , good-looking , friendly-looking ,kawawa naman mentality, fantasy based on movie roles , notion created by media and easy name recall whether it is associated in scandal or not. Sad to say, that is the reality of our majority of voters, the mentality and emotions that will defy logic and principles.
This is in contrast on the blog election by wawam which recently concluded. The majority who voted for that blogs are in the middle class and educated sector of the population. The results speaks for it self,Gordon and Villanueva were statistically tie and the choices were excellent and based on issues and principle.
The answer is to properly educate the majority of the voters. The elected officials reflects the state of mind and emotion ,visions and values of those who voted for them.

Rod, I think you are the one who needs to wake up. Saying the reasons provide by the blogger are legitimate is tantamount to saying WE SHOULD PLAY DIRTY JUST LIKE VILLAR AND NOYNOY.

Unfortunately, majority if not all of Gordon followers, except you, believe that Gordon did the right thing. He set the standard on what a campaign should look like and how it should be conducted. Clean, fair and honest.

Saying the “assertions” are true is tantamount to saying OK LANG MAGING TANGA ANG BOTANTE MAKUKUHA MO PA RIN ANG BOTO NILA BASTA GAGAGUHIN MO LANG SILA. You are not helping Rod, you are part of the problem. You should encourage other voters to think and decide base on performance, qualifications and integrity above all. If everybody gets educated on how candidate selection should be then we wouldn’t be worrying about a Noynoy presidency or an Estrada presidency.

Btw, no one is talking about theoretical issues here. My rebuttal are all part of REALITY. Unfortunately, people like you and majority of Noynoy voters are having problems differentiating REALITY and FICTION. It’s sad to know.

    • Rod
      May 12, 2010 at 5:32 am

In your world, a candidate with limited funds thus relatively unknown in some parts of the country and unlikable to the masa coz of his “personality”, wins. In our world, he has no chance.

Noynoy won. So why do you think Gordon lost? Surveys? Eddie Villanueva even bested him. Gordon got only around 400+ k votes? Dont tell us millions of Filipinos are dumb for not choosing Gordon? Where did the ABC crowd go?

And please read the above analysis again and take same time to dwell on it. The topic is “why will Richard Gordon lose this election?” Your other arguments? I will let them fade away peacefully by ignoring them. c”,)

Wake up and put your theory into practice.

actually, gordon is highly abled and qualified to be president kaya lang, the people have spoken. he is not bound to be. pero gordon is th eonly one among the many who run who is most capable. i believe that his honesty, his skills, his ability and enthusiasm just like what he does in subic can be replicated in the hwole of the philippines had he been given the chance. but noy won so even if my choice is gordon, i will support president noynoy because noy is now the president and not gordon. however, if senator gordon deserve the support also
in his other endeavor. each of them have arole to play so….i wish them all
    the best
