we are all proud and thankful for their successful and excellent service.

we are petitioning the government to give each one of them at least a 1 month salary bonus in appreciation and recognition of a job well done.

if you agree with this and you want to give recognition to those who worked hard to protect, keep him safe  and make sure  everything goes well with Pope Francis and his visit to the country, retweet these:

mr. pink, the uglifier of metro manila bayani fernando to run for vice president – smart move, almost

December 1, 2009 5 comments

we think it is right for mr. pink bayani fernando to drop his run for the presidency, his chances of winning without a party is anywhere from zero to nil.

bayani fernando

we also think his running for vice president is right, well almost. we think fernando will make an excellent vice president for any candidate. he has the passion and the energy to get things done, no matter what. these are very good qualities as a 2nd in command.

there is the almost there as we think he will have a hard time to win this election as VP. running for the senate would be much better for him but the vice-presidency is a tough fight for him.

we wish mr. pink, the uglifier of metro manila,  bayani fernando all the best.

bayani fernando’s “kailangan bayani” tv ad – disjointed logic from a logical man

September 11, 2009 6 comments

this tv ad is down and out an election campaign ad for fernando and we think it is one that most probably fernando himself wrote or at least most of the ad was written by fernando.

it is a bad tv ad. no, its a very bad tv ad.

the production values is akin to being the best home video shot by a relative. i have seen the ad a few times and i still do not understand what fernando said the first time he spoke to the camera. the audio towards the end was also very bad, fernando is hardly understood.

the copy is also very disjointed. there is no single message and it does not build to anything. parang halo-halo – bits and pieces of thoughts taken from somewhere and placed side by side in this ad.

when bayani on-cam said “titino at yayaman tayo”, i knew this ad was written by bayani himself. the first part of the ad had nothing to do with this line and this line has nothing to do with the ending.

i am sure there is 6 page explanation on why those thoughts make sense but it feels like someone just took out large parts of what is between them and put these lines into the ad. there are huge logic gaps in this ad.

fernando is a very logical man and he follows a very specific logic flow. i am sure he can explain why “yayaman tayo” should be part of the ad. but the 15 second length of the ad did not allow it. it is an intriguing idea this country being made up of mostly poor people but it falls flat as the ad did not bother to explain it.

“political will” is also an interesting idea. but it was not explained well, in fact not at all explained. i do not know what voters will get out of this ad but i suspect not much.

this tv ad is a WAWAM!

MMDA’s Bayani Fernando – #1 uglifier of metro manila picture gallery

this is a sample of bayani fernando’s uglifying effort of metro manila. the whole effort has very good intentions, it’s just the choice of the color scheme – his favorite pink and bright blue.

this is located on katipunan road towards ateneo/UP right before the overpass that crosses aurora avenue.  the area is elevated like on a short hill. before bayani’s pink make-over, the houses on those hills were run down – unpainted wood as walls, make do roofing and generally small homes of disrepair.

bayani’s make over involved changing the wood, fixing the roofs, evening out the cement and of course painting them in pink and bright blue.

the effort of improving the homes is definitely commendable. we don’t think any of the home owners were thinking of fixing their homes anytime soon, they would not have the funds for it. so that’s the good intentions part. but did bayani have to paint them in pink and bright blue?

the color scheme both uglified a good intent and metro manila.

Metro in pink irks left-wing solons

MANILA, Philippines—For these “Reds,” Metro Manila hardly looks pretty in pink.

A group of left-leaning lawmakers wants the House of Representativesto investigate—in aid of legislation—the use by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) of bright pink as standard color for road signs and structures.

The group says the pink signs and structures not only mar the urban landscape but also violate local and international safety regulations.

“[They] are, at best, eyesores that worsen the visual blight plaguing Metro Manila,” according to a resolution filed last month by Bayan Muna Representatives Satur Ocampo and Teodoro Casiño; Gabriela Representatives Liza Maza and Luzviminda Ilagan; and Anakpawis Rep. Rafael Mariano.

MMDA Chair Bayani Fernando, however, is standing by his motif, saying the national capital’s “drab environment” can use a rosy accent here and there.

we agree with the congressmen – the MMDA, the government agency mandated to make the city a better place to live is the number 1 culprit in uglifying the city.

don’t get us wrong – we applaud the MMDA and it’s head Bayani Fernando, they have done a great job in making the city much better than what it was before. the MMDA has launched many programs like improving traffic congestion, removing eye sores, cleaning up the city, clearing up sidewalks and all the pedestrian over-pass, to name a few which we think have made a big difference for the city. we don’t think there has ever been an MMDA and MMDA head who has done so much for the city.

but this obsession on painting everything in pink is a complete eyesore and does nothing but uglify the city. the congressmen are correct – the MMDA need to stop uglifying the city and mr. fernando need to go to a seminar on “Beauty & Aesthetics 101” and “Poor Taste Vs Good Taste 101”.

i am not in total agreement with what fernando said – his obsession on pink is to improve the “drab environment” of the metro. first of all, i don’t think his mandate includes removing the “drab environment”.

and more importantly, given the proof  from his efforts, he has no taste and he should not see himself as having the artistic inclination to make things beautiful. if in his eyes what he has done is to make the metro beautiful, he has failed miserably. with his obsession on pink, he has in fact made the metro uglier. he simply has poor taste.

we do appreciate fernando’s intent and many of his efforts but he needs to apply his smarts on how he does things. all the good intentions and plans he has for the metro are blown to bits because of the way he does things. he needs to face the reality that he has no taste and should not attempt to beautify anything as it has the opposite effect.

note: yes, “uglifier” is a word in WAWAM! so are the others like “uglification” and “uglify”.
