noynoy aquino – President of Get-Arroyo or President Of The Philippines?

July 25, 2010 4 comments

we heard from noynoy aquino himself, his first SONA (State of the Nation Address) will shock us. the shock according to him will come from his expose of newly uncovered anomalies committed by his predecessor, gloria macapagal arroyo.

when i first read that, i shook my head and my hand involuntarily went up to my head to scratch it and my involuntarily thought the fertilizer scam, the macapagal highway and the NBN-ZTE deal. these went on a horizontal scroll in my mind with a headline flashing at the top that said “These scandals are not the most shocking yet?”

aquino seem to be on a relentless pursuit of  gloria macapagal arroyo, errr graft and corruption in national government. he did get elected to the presidency on huge anti-corruption platform so we are not really surprised why aquino is doing what he has been doing.  it is an election promise and i guess much unlike previous politicians before him, we should not blame him for relentlessly pursuing GMA, errr corruption in national government.

now i am wondering – noynoy does look good when he is wearing his “President  of Get-Arroyo” hat but when will we see much of his “President Of The Philippines” hat? we hope we will see that during the SONA or at least even a little over half of the time spent on the SONA  would have him wearing his “President Of The Philippines” hat.

when we see him on that hat, i bet he will even look much better. let’s hope his “President Of The Philippines” hat is much bigger and prettier than the other hat.

ateneo psychology department on fabricated psychiatric evaluation of noynoy aquino – stop using us

Statement of the Ateneo Psychology Department about the second fabricated psychiatric evaluation of Sen. Benigno C. Aquino III
date posted: 2010-04-27 20:51:05

On 9 April 2010, the Ateneo Psychology Department issued a statement regarding the psychiatric evaluation which was allegedly signed by Fr. Carmelo (Tito) Caluag who was claimed to be a faculty of our Department in 1996. In our response, we said that the document is false; that Fr. Caluag is not a psychologist or a psychiatrist and has never been affiliated with the Ateneo Psychology Department.

Today, 27 April 2010, another fabricated psychiatric evaluation has circulated in the news, allegedly written and signed in 1979 by our founder and current professor, Fr. Jaime C. Bulatao, SJ. Fr. Bulatao has earlier released his response, categorically denying that he has written and signed that report. The Ateneo Psychology Department once again categorically states that this “psychiatric evaluation” is a fabricated document.

We strongly condemn these repeated attempts to use the Ateneo Psychology Department for black propaganda. When the first fabrication did not work because of the mistake of choosing a signatory ( i.e., Fr. Tito Caluag) who has never been affiliated with our Psychology Department, the same scheme was thought of, this time using our most esteemed Fr. Jaime C. Bulatao, SJ. These acts of malicious falsifications should be stopped once and for all!

We hope that this is the last time that the name of the Ateneo Psychology Department will be dragged into the malicious misinformation campaign about the alleged mental condition of Senator Benigno C. Aquino III.

september 2009 SWS presidentiable poll :noynoy aquino’s spectacular rise to front runner is magical

October 14, 2009 9 comments

we have said before that this september survey is a most important survey for all the presidentiables for the front runners, the new comers and the laggards.

noynoy aquino

  • noynoy aquino getting a whopping 60% in the survey can only be described as spectacular. while we said in our previous post that it would be good for aquino to get a double digit rating, even if it is a low double digit. aquino getting a very high 60% double digit is just spectacular.
  • aquino’s 60% rating is the highest that any presidentiable ever got since september 2007.
  • there is further significance in that high 60% rating – it  is a hugely dominant rating given the high  number of declared/almost declared presidentiables at 13 and the survey format of any name can be mentioned. with so many presidentiables and the open ended question, a fragmented distribution is expected as it has been before aquino was included in the survey. for one candidate to amass such a high double digit rating is a clear sign of aquino’s popularity.

 manny villar

  • villar is showing impressive strength – he is the only major presidentiable whose rating increased to 37% from 33%  upon the onslaught of aquino’s front runner rating. that means villar continued to gain strength,
  • his performance in this survey makes him the only other viable candidate to beat aquino.

 gilbert teodoro

  • teodoro gained significantly to 4% from 0.8% but this is expected given that he was acclaimed standard bearer on september 16 which got teodoro optimum media exposure.
  • it is however a very disappointing rating as it is a low single digit rating. we said in a previous post he needed to get a high single digit (7-9%) to show some semblance of being a contender in this election.
  • being part of the ruling/admin party, we expected more from teodoro.

eddie villanueva & nicanor perlas

  • we think villanueva and perlas need to re-asses their candidacy. in fact we think both should withdraw their candidacy, it is hopeless for both of them.
  • perlas did not get any rating while villanueva improved to just 1%.
  • we are saying they should withdraw their candidacy because they continue to get extremely low, hopeless ratings inspite of the efforts they exerted during that period.
  • we suggest perlas and villanueva should seek senatorial seats instead.

what is next?

  •  all the presidentiables should re-assess their campaign strategies and plans. they need to contend with the new from runner, noynoy aquino.
  • this is a honeymoon period for aquino. his ratings will weaken  through the weeks as people get to know him better and his competitors dial up their own activities. the challenge for aquino is for him to sustain a gradual drop and avoid  significant drops.
  • villar’s campaign plans and activities are doing very well. he should continue with it but he needs to fill in the gaps.

this is our post in this blog last october 3:

october 2009 SWS and Pulse Asia presidentiables poll is a most crucial one so far

sws and pulse asia must be ready to go on fieldwork for their last quarter 2009 presidentiables poll survey. they will probably do the fieldwork end of next week or the week after. they have to wait for things to settle down first on the ondoy storm. people are too preoccupied and very much distracted by ondoy that i doubt they will get any meaningful results for the survey.

it is a most crucial presidentiables poll in the 2010 presidential election.

  • very major developments have occured among the presidentiables – mar roxas withdrew, noynoy aquino announced he is a presidentiable and gilbert teodoro was declared ruling/admin party standard bearer. ed panlilio and jejomar binay withdrew while bayani fernando was dumped by his party.
  • we can expect major changes in ratings if not rankings.
  • there will be a lot to interpret with the upcoming results just on those developments.
  • the addition of ondoy will also add significantly to it. we can expect that the people’s ondoy experience or what others have witnessed happening to others will affect preferences.
  • this quarter’s poll results will be particularly important to aquino, teodoro and villar.
  • aquino based on the luzon sws poll jumped to close to the heavens with a 50% rating. the 4qtr poll will need to confirm his strong standing. he does not need to top the polls but doing a double digit rating even on the low double digit will be excellent news for aquino.
  • teodoro is at the bottom of the heap of poll garbage. he has a measly 0.2%. he needs to show he can be a factor in the election with at least a high single digit rating. just hitting a low single digit will confirm what most everybody seem to say about him – he is a non-factor in the next election.
  • what can be going for teodoro is that because of ondoy and being the chair of the NDCC, he has been getting a significant amount of press. is that good or bad? will that help his rating and ranking in the next poll?
  • this will be important for villar as this will show a true test of villar’s leadership in the polls. he is the front runner and we will know if he still deserves that title given the above developments.
  • the poll will also be crucial to the laggards. the poll results will tell them if they need to re-assess their candidacy. the time to drop out of the race is in december at the latest.

noynoy aquino’s surge in 2010 Presidentiables Blog Poll – “build it and they will come”

September 12, 2009 9 comments

there  is this famous line in the kevin costner movie, “Field Of Dreams” (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Field_of_Dreams) where costner’s character is a farmer who decides to build a baseball field in his farm to use it as an attraction for people to go to so that his farm can stay financially solvent. while walking in the fields, he hears a voice “if you build it, he will come”. he refers to costner’s dad with whom he had a few unsettled issues. kostner builds the baseball field, settles the issues with his dad and as the voice said people from all over came to see the “field of dreams”

we wonder if that is what is happening to noynoy’s presidentialnoynoy aquino surge in poll candidacy. an aquino or much less noynoy as a presidential candidate was something nobody dreamed about. that was so until tita cory died and people started thinking of noynoy. even at the time when that was thought of, people were uncertain about noynoy. he took some time deciding and during that period of consideration, we did not really know how people will  react to noynoy.

but here we are, just 3 days since noynoy announced his candidacy and the poll in this blog shows noynoy gaining as of this writing an impressive 17%,  putting noynoy already tied at second place with escudero and past villar and fernando.

when noynoy built, did they start coming in?

are we being told here that all that noynoy did was announce his candidacy and people will on their own, even without the advertising spending that villar has been doing, people will come and support him?

certainly the media has given noynoy a lot of attention, in the past few days getting on front page news if not headline news. the administration’s attempt to discredit noynoy even before he [proclaimed to be a candidate seem to indicate they see him as front runner. it was premature on the part of the administration but that seemed to be the impression they are giving us.

this is the internet and the overwhelming support noynoy got in the pol in this blog mostly came from those with facebook accounts. that hardly represents the voter profile in the country but it we can’t stop thinking of the question and yes the possibility that as it has happened in this blog, they will also come out there in the real world.

MANILA, Philippines—Sen. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III officially announced that he will run for president in 2010 on Wednesday, exactly 40 days after the death of his late mother, former President Corazon Aquino.

Aquino made the announcement of his candidacy for the presidency at about 8 a.m. at the Club Filipino in Greenhills, San Juan City, the same venue where his late mother took her oath as president in 1986.

Personalities present at the jam-packed room were Liberal Party members Senators Manuel “Mar” Roxas II, Francis Pangilinan, former Sen. Franklin Drilon, Quezon Representative Lorenzo “Erin” Tañada III, former congressmen Florencio “Butch” Abad and Nereus Acosta, singer-composer Jim Paredes, former Defense Secretary Avelino Cruz and Leah Navarro of the Black and White Movement.
