richard gordon vs. eddie villanueva – the 2010 Presidentiables Blog face-off #1

we are jumping off from the leaders in our poll here at 2010 Presidentiables and the amount of comments made in this blog where a high proportion is on eddie villanueva and richard gordon. these two presidentiables are leading in our poll and we think their supporters are very frequent visitors of this blog.

we like to start a face-off concept where we will be pitting two presidentiables against each other – to hear the views of our readers on why one deserves his/her vote over the other.

these are my  views on these two presidentiables which in no way is complete and not at all comprehensive. i do not know how much my views of these candidates are those of regular voters, but these are my impressions of these two presidentiables.

richard gordon

  • has been a long-time senator
  • tended to be on the opposition side
  • his senate committee recently came out with a recommendation to impeach arroyo on the ZTE corruption scandal
  • he was the hero of the rehabilitation of the Subic Naval Base when he almost single handedly revived and made the naval base viable again  when the americans abandoned it as a naval base. he not only prevented its going down to waste but made it viable again.
  • he was responsible for changing olangapo city into a a good community and not just a place where hard rock, drugs and prostitution was the main source of income for the city
  • he has been head of the national red cross and did very well during the ondoy/pepeng floods

eddie villanueva

  • is a protestant minister and head of JIL
  • he ran in the last presidential election and lost, came in last
  • he touts the 7Es as his platform but often forgets to talk about them during interviews
  • his interest is to reform the country through eyes made up of convictions on his faith
  • his presidency counts a lot on the support of JIL members

who are you voting for – villanueva or gordon?

      A quote from Moderator (Wawam):

“we like to start a face-off concept where we will be pitting two presidentiables against each other – to hear the views of our readers on why one deserves his/her vote over the other.”

      Feedback and suggestions:

Mr Wawam, with due respect, the above topic you posted (which is subject for readers’ discussion) is obviously bias. You initiated a post with an unbalanced presentation and forgetting to collect inputs from both sides before presenting to readers for their comments.

Would you please let the readers post their positive or negative comments to both candidates. Your comments too as a reader should be located on the reply or comments area as necessary.

Kindly handle the topic with care and suggest that you revise this post in order to avoid negative impressions from the readers for being a partisan moderator. Thank you and Merry Christmas too.

I got your thought Wawam, but my concern is about the details of your presentation on the ‘matching’ views both for Eddie Villanueva and Dick Gordon. Your research has partiality.

The first one got your desirable views while the other one receives a lot of negative points from you as a moderator and owner of this blog. There’s a lot of positive points you may contribute for Villanueva and also a negative points for Gordon to make it fair before presenting to the public for further discussion. Thus, your comparison study knowingly or unknowingly will eventually mislead the readers.

Really there are some negative feedbacks from the readers the way you handle the discussions. Being a professional moderator, please be fair and balance particularly for these political and sensitive issues.

          Thanks.

Destiny! Tama ba yun! I respect what you’ve said. Conviction mo yon! But if you’re alone, while in meditation–think hard fairly on what you said. And ask, “Does God favor my kind of Thinking?” Kung malinis ang hangarin–no question on that maybe! But you cannot serve two masters! God or Country? Choose one! I choose my country! And Gordon is my wise bet for President!

Just because he is connected to JIL? And everyone else is corrupt? Talk about a closed mindset that doesn’t see the real picture.

Exactly, I’m tired of promises made by politicians who are only good with WORDS but not in DEEDS. You hear them talk as if they can make our country into some Nirvana but in the end it all comes to nothing but mere words. Our country needs MEN OF ACTION, and based on facts Gordon is that MAN.

To the transformers: There is no real transformation unless your heart receives the Lord Jesus Christ. Transformation only happens when the lower, human life (bios) is subject and subdued by the higher, divine life (zoe) and this can only happen when the Lord Jesus Christ is invited into your heart. It is not a matter of coming up with a more attractive and more colorful caterpillar but a matter of that ugly caterpillar becoming a magnificent butterfly. The lower life being turned into a higher life. As Paul said, “It is not I, but Christ” (Galatians 2:20). Does Bayani and Dick define transformation this way? Because if they do not then our God does and He wrote it in His Word. Search the Scriptures and you will know….

    • O_O
      December 22, 2009 at 12:11 am

Aaaaannnndddd… how do you explain that to those who doesn’t share your faith in the first place? Wala na sila? Condemned na sila no questions asked?

      That argument is rubbish.

Transformation comes from within and comes from motivation. Not even religion can do this UNLESS the person himself initiates it within. This is why we have free will.

Gordon and Bayani does this by providing an environment conducive to transformation. Faith applied in a situation unsuitable for transformation either doesn’t work or backfires. Moreso when you shove religion into people’s faces, which was what the Roman Catholics’ greatest error from before. (They’ve been correcting this eversince.)

i am with you on this O_O, that we should not use religion in searching for the best man for the job but that we should weigh each and every candidate, seeking the man with the best character to lead this nation of ours to prosperity and not for self gratification ..

Si Bro Eddie maski hindi nanungkulan sa gobyerno ay tumutulong na sa mahirap even in his student days. Hindi kagaya ni Gordon na nasa public office , he had all the government facilities at his command , pati photo ops when helping people kitang kita agad sa media. Nandoon kaagad sa diyaryo ang picture ..meron good media mileage kaagad .
Bro Eddie doesnt work that way.

      Whoa there.

      >>Hindi kagaya ni Gordon na nasa public office , he had all the government facilities at his command , pati photo ops when helping people kitang kita agad sa media.

Kindly take your head off your butt, because this is simply untrue. He shuns the media when he does his job of helping people. Even the so-called photop of red cross waiting for him is a big miscommunication. Goes to show how much you know Gordon– not much. It’s easy to get to know him, especially with the interview conducted to him very recently.

      >>Si Bro Eddie maski hindi nanungkulan sa gobyerno ay tumutulong na sa mahirap even in his student days.

47 years of Red Cross volunteerism of Gordon. > helping the poor since student days by Eddie Villanueva.

And why does that matter? It’s his job! You wanted him to be elsewhere? Work comes first, media exposure is secondary. You ignored a point where he supposedly “delayed donation giving in order to wait for Gordon”. Gordon got mad at the red cross neophyte who assumed and told the press that.

In this field, exposure or hiya is irrelevant to governance. If he does his job even though he gets media milage, good! What matters is someone who does his job well.

          >>Si Bro Eddie has been helping the oppressed even in his college years…Nakulong pa yan twice during Marcos time…kasi di niya matiis ang mga taong mangagawa na inaapi, mga taong pinapatay na walang kalaban laban.

Gordon’s been in the red cross and raised a city from shambles, saved tourism, running it right, making it prosper. He also inspires volunteerism and raises morale of his constituents so that they become productive.

Eddie did good, but Gordon did so much more.

u definitely dont know what ur saying .. check the present constitution.. it clearly states .. that the separation of chruch and states implies that the funds of the government will not be used in the church neither the funds of the church be used to finance governmental works … it didnt say people in the church cannot run to public office cause if it did .. the only guys who can run to public office are those who dont go to church .. whats with people and prohibiting good people to become presidents?? are they afraid that people who serve in church would do great in the government?? well if u dont believe me read it in section 6 of the 1987 constitution .. it says that separation of church and state would be inviolable .. if u read further u will see this .. “No public money or property shall be appropriated, applied, paid, or employed, directly or indirectly, for the use, benefit, or support of any sect, church, denomination, sectarian institution, or system of religion, or of any priest, preacher, minister, other religious teacher, or dignitary as such, except when such priest, preacher, minister, or dignitary is assigned to the armed forces, or to any penal institution, or government orphanage or leprosarium.

Look, even the Preamble of American and Philippine constitution state ” implore the aid of the Almighty God”

So? The matter here is NOT who is mandated with Divine blessings. It is WHO… may I emphasize, WHO has the proper and fitting credentials to lead the country. Governance, not religion, is the name of the game. Man still has to act despite Divine aid, and those who do well and has shown without doubt that they can do well are the ones that we need.

if we are looking for a better leader, why don’t we try Eddie Villanueva. He has the political will, a man of action, and a principled man. He is the best option for president! Don’t close your mind or be open minded.

Whoa whoa wait. That’s what Gordon and BF are made of! Don’t go stealing thunders. And even then, Gordon and BF has far more outstanding proof that they have what it takes and that people will not be risking their votes to them. Because they are tried and tested!

When it comes to integrity I can’t that one has more than the other. Both of them are good leaders but one has experience over the other. Let’s stop the mudslinging with some poster saying that one candidate has court cases etc. Both of them are good but one of them has more experience. That’s why I’m voting for Gordon this coming elections.

  16. December 22, 2009 at 12:00 pm

Peace be with us.

What will you expect from them? Another 6 years of ramdam na ramdam na paghihirap 😦

U have to add Dick Gordon worked with Marcos, Cory, Ramos, Estrada, the latter rejected his services in SBMA. Gordon is not economist. He is a lawyer, whose track records and leadership is better than any good economist in the country. Looked how he transformed the SBMA from the garbage of Pinatubo to 250,000 more jobs around it. Maybe, u have a friend or relative who benefited from the worked he has done in Subic. As the statement above he is a leader who can worked with anyone regardless of party affiliations and beliefs, that’s the character of a true leader whose visions are for the betterment of the lives of the Filipinos. How about his dedication to Red Cross of 47 yrs, There is no comparison between GMA and Gordon. U Don’t like him, because you like Eddie that’s fine he’s a good leader too. But be fair and real about the character of Dick and what he is capable of turning this country, sa ibang level ng ekonimiya.

this is the weakness of the villanueva campaign – villanueva is saying the same things as the other presidentiables, nothing really new. that is how he will lose as the other presidentiables are much more known and popular than villanueva. most of the other presidentiables are elected senators or those who have had a government position. between two candidates who are saying the same things, voters will naturally gravitate and prefer the known presidentiables rather than the lesser known villanueva.

    Richard Gordon for President

we need a leader that has vision. someone who will bring us to a place we’ve never been. his leadership is something that the filipinos have never seen before. he is someone who is motivated by passion and love for his country and countrymen. this should be the main basis in making a decision on voting a president. not the popularity, not the family name, not by how rich they are. but by proven achievements and solid track record. filipinos are generally intelligent folks. im proud i am filipino! filipinos should see that he is the most qualified to be the next president who will transform our beloved country to a great and powerful nation that we used to be a long time ago. Pilipinas, magtulong tulong tayo.

To all the people in this blog,
What about if, instead of continuing to be defensive of our own candidate, why don’t we help each other to find a way to see who these candidates really are in their daily practical living infront and behind cameras? How I wish I could see these people personally in their homes and with their friends and lifestyles they have daily.I believe with it then, we can really see who is credible.
I am more concern on the lifestyle of these candidates infront and behind people. Most of them I see is a good media player. I hate hipocricy of the traditional politicians.
    I will vote for Eddie.

    • December 28, 2009 at 6:37 am

Bro Eddie may not have billions of pesos to support his candidacy, he may not have rich businessmen to finance him and make him appear number 1 on surveys, he may not have warlords to cover him…BUT Bro Eddie has countless intercessors to support God’s agenda for this country.
Sabe ni John Quincy Adams “Always vote for principle, though you may vote alone, and you may cherish the sweetest reflection that your vote is never lost.”

    • December 23, 2009 at 2:31 pm

villanueva’s very poor showing in the polls mean very few people know about him. in areas where he is well known, it means he has been unable to convince the voters in that area to select him. he needs to do both – get himself known to people and persuade those who know him to select him.

he needs to talk 7Es much more often and quit talking about the cheating in the last election and no talk on religion.

  26. Libby Loiz

Surveys are not votes, whether they admit it or not, surveys are done to condition the minds of the public. How can Bro Eddie rate in the surveys when his name is NEVER INCLUDED in the list.. Naranasan ko po ito sa palengke, first week of December 2009, Imagine wala ang pangalan niya sa mga pagpipilian?
VOTERS, are you not aware of the PROCESS OF ELIMINATION? Here’s how:
In 2004, Lima (5) sila naglaban (gloria, fpj, lacson, roco, bro eddie). Roco was indisposed before the election and died. FPJ died a year after the election. Lacson, opted not to run anymore (reason: your guess is as good as mine), and Gloria, we all know, won the presidency but thanks to Garci and Ampatuans, and She is the only president with impeachment proceedings year after year. THE LAST MAN WHO REMAINED STANDING AND WHO’S BENT TO OFFER HIS SERVICES, not only according to his faith but also to RIGHTEOUS GOVERNANCE is BRO EDDIE V.
Since 2004, He was meant to be!

    • December 23, 2009 at 2:29 pm

this is incorrect – villanueva’s name is included in the list in the surveys. the fact that he gets a 1% to 2% in the polls says his name is part of the poll.

      • janet
        February 18, 2010 at 4:18 pm

Our families and friends experience thesame that the name of Bro. Eddie is not included during surveys, So who would believe in the surveys? Only those whom they can try to manipulate… People nowadays are waking up, not hiding behind,or closing their eyes and just vote to those who are leading daw…? People hungers for righteousness, even people of different religion, atheists, muslims and etc. I believe every Pilipino who loves this nation and the people of the Philippines will vote a righteous leader who truly love this nation and the people, not for political gain or any other selfish motives behind. That is why I AM DEFINITELY FOR BRO. EDDIE VILLANUEVA, WHO AMONG THE OTHER CANDIDATES HAS THE CAPABILITY TO LEAD THIS NATION BECAUSE GOD IS WITH HIM. GOD BLESS YOU BRO. as i have said previously, talking religion in an election is not a good thing. it is very polarizing – some like it but most do not like it. it will NOT help villanueva if he keeps talking about religion, he needs to talk of the 7Es instead. and so should villanueva’s followers who post in this blog. talk religion and you will be unable to persuade most who read your posts, they are a turn off.

    My Fellow Voters,
I do believe that all of these candidates are good and brilliant, and they even have all sincere desire to serve, they are all qualified as far as skills and ability is concern. But, what I am trying to see and desire to know on these candidates is their self-control and self-discipline.Being in the highest position of the land is a very tempting position. The question is,HINDI KAYA SILA MASISILAW AT MATUKSO SA YAMAN NG KAPANGYARIHAN NA IBIBIGAY NG SAMBAYANAN SA KANILA?
With these then, I like what Bro.Eddie said,”This world is too poor to buy my conviction.” If this is true, then beyond the shadow of a doubt….He is the man!

    • O_O
      December 26, 2009 at 4:37 am

Let’s throw that question right back at you. Did you ever see Richard Gordon or Bayani Fernando get blinded by power and do the bad things, unanimously and proven in court? Did their governance ever falter catastrophically? No?

      >>yung may paggalang sa sarili na hinding hindi niya ibibinta ang kanyang kaluluwa.

Gordon and BF never sold their souls to what would make them popular, they just did what is right and is good. And consistently for the past 20 years or so. They have their proof written in the cities and departments they headed.

      December 26, 2009 at 4:39 am

      And another…

      >>But, what I am trying to see and desire to know on these candidates is their self-control and self-discipline.Being in the highest position of the land is a very tempting position.

You don’t know discipline and self control until you’ve seen Richard Gordon and Bayani Fernando. They are the most disciplined of all the candidates, and it shows in the positions they held before. Routines like clockwork, ideas executed well, with the results of advancement.

The answer was staring at your in the eye.

I know many of you cannot be convinced, but I can assure you of real action and real changes with Dick Gordon and Bayani Fernando. Please think about it well. To see proof of their capabilities, just go to Olongapo, Subic, and Marikina City. And let’s not forget, MMDA.

Practice what you preach. Hindi lang puro salita….

will not endorse him for no reason. as a growing young boy in olongapo
city, i was a witness of his dedication in public service and inspiring
leadership. many people say he is a really good presidential candidate
but may not win because he is not as popular as his adversaries. however,

Whether in the affairs inside the church or inside the government or in business, you are dealing to same human being. If Juan dela Cruz goes inside the church or he goes inside the government office to transact business ,or he goes to school to study or he invest on a sari-sari store ,it doesn’t change what he needs, what he aspire ,what inside his heart and mind, what his hurts and concern.I worked in a company,I worked with hundreds of workers, foremen and supervisors.I learn what his needs and the needs and wants of his family. The worker when he works,he works for his family. When he goes to church or practice his belief,he brings his family praying for what they need,When he ask his pastor or priest to pray and bless him,he ask to pray for his needs and the needs of his family. When he votes in the election,he votes for his needs and his family needs. When he supports a politician , he expects that the politician will return the favor or to do what he expects that will benefits his family for they are part in the community. So, there is no difference or no line of demarcation that separates the life of the life of juan dela cruz. His life inside the church, his life as a worker or businessman or his relation with the politicians or government employees are closely intertwined ,interconnected and interrelated dynamically.

For example, normally a lot of church members will ask me to pray for them. What are their requests?travelling mercy between house and workplace, personal protection from criminal elements, from accidents along the way, protection for the whole family inside and outside of the house, blessing for their continuing provision, good health so they can do their jobs well and have strenght to sustain his family. He is asking God to bless his secular life.

As a pastor or priest or government official or community worker ,you are serving these ordinary citizens with same aspirations and dreams whether they are inside the church, government, business or employment. Whatever you had done for them whether as a pastor, priest, government official or private individual is valid.

As part of the body of Christ, all our programs and all projects for the benefit of each member is and they will experience an abundant life as promised by God.These programs are for the wholistic well being and for the benefit of the whole aspects of their lives.Aspects on his spiritual life and relation with God, financial needs, health, godly relations with his/her family ,friends and to whole community and his life as a good worker or godly businessman. All of these ,Bro.Eddie had accomplished for the JIL and for the community.

The work as pastor or man of God are more challenging and difficult than the work as a mayor, governor, secrectary or senator. You must live by faith on God. All your move, behavior, dealings, decisions and relations with each member must conform and follow the Word of God.
As a mayor, you can smoke and drink without affecting your performance as a mayor.
But as a pastor ,you must live as a godly example to all the church.
As a mayor, you may have a mistress as long it doesn’t affect your job as a mayor.
But as a pastor, this an abomination against God and the whole church.
As a senator, you can assassinate the character of a person in your privilege speech. But as a pastor, you cannot curse or speak slander against any person for it is murder in the Eyes of God.
As a senator ,you may flirt with your secretary without the knowledge of the chamber. But as a pastor, this is unfaithfulness and spiritual adultery against your wife and God.
As a chairman, you may pass some small personal expenses as an official expense,But as a pastor ,this is stealing and you sinned to men and God.

But Bro.Eddie have proven his honesty, godliness and faithfulness to God ,to his wife, family and church and to the country.

si Gordon walang alzheimer’s disease. when he took the challenge of being the chairman of sbma. he said that he will develop subic and will convince foreign investors to give jobs for people of zambales, bataan, pampanga and tarlac. Despite the departure of the american military and the eruption of Pinatubo, he fulfilled what he promised. and look at how progressive Olongapo and Subic right now.

When he was appointed as secretary of the department of tourism. his vision was that tourism means money. during and even after his service, philippines has become a major tourist spot in southeast asia. you should have heard about WOW Philippines.

He was elected as Chairman of PNRC. Before his service, Red cross was more popular as a mere blood bank. During his service, he modernized the equipments and facilities and now, red cross is more effective in saving lives of people and attending to their needs, even better than the philippine army rescue team…. Wala akong problema kay Bro. Eddie. I’m a devoted christian as well and I agree that the next president should have a great fear in God.
He’s a volunteer in Red Cross for 43 years and has been a mayor, sbma chairman, secretary, pnrc chairman and senator in 33 years altogether.

God bless you my fellow christian. I hope you and our filipino brothers will be enlightened.
