January 17, 2012 – The 2010 Presidentiables Blog reaches 1,000,000 hits

January 18, 2012 Leave a comment

first post in this blog was in november 22, 2008. after 3 years and 3 months, 772 posts and 10,007 comments posted, the blog has reached 1 Million hits.  that to us is a lot of zeroes and we are above ourselves that we got this far.

the blog had modest beginnings – just another blog talking about the upcoming presidential elections in 2010.  the blog quickly got hits which we credit to the fact that this is one of the first blogs to use the term “presidentiables” as a blog name. it was a marketing decision. we thought getting a recognizable name and being first at it was going to be critical in getting readership. we thought it was natural for netizens to search for the word “presidentiables” to get information or news on the upcoming presidential elections.

the strategy worked.

1 Million hits was reached sometime in the evening of January 17, 2012

after the 2010 elections, we thought of closing down the blog. but then there were requests to continue it and thus we transformed the blog to talk about topics other than the election that was already concluded but also national issues in politics or governance. and those that concern the people.

we like to thank those who contributed to the 1 Million hits.

first post was in November, 2008

Controversial Video of Nick Perlas on GMA 7 Kandidato

April 3, 2010 2 comments

It will only take less than 30 minutes to watch the attached videos.  But, it will give you a very good idea about Nicanor Perlas, his platform, his stand on certain issues, and his character.  The exchange between the panel of hosts and Nick are rapid-fire so there’s no boring moment.  I encourage you to watch this, especially if you are still in the process of deciding who you will be voting for president this coming elections.  And even if you have decided on a candidate already but haven’t studied or heard about all the other candidates, this is also for you.  And for those who are already supporters of NP (Nicanor Perlas, new politics and new Philippines) , please pass this to your friends and encourage them to watch this.

This election is probably one of the most important in our history.  30 years of traditional politics have destroyed our institutions and our values.  The power is in our hands to say ENOUGH.  Before making your choice, ask yourself what is your highest aspiration for our country.  Then study the track record of each candidates versus their platforms and their stand on issues.  Then, make your choice. Please forget about “winnability, ” please don’t choose on the basis of the lesser evil.  You are doing yourself and the future generations of Filipino a disservice.  Vote what your heart and your conscience tell you.  This is the least we can do for our children and for millions of Filipino children.

He does not have an unlimited advertising budget – but he has everything else it takes to be the President our country needs.

Please take 30 minutes to watch Nicanor Perlas’ powerful interview on GMA’s Kandidato. Then see if he really deserves your vote.

Leaders of three indigenous groups, the Aetas, Maharlikas and Alimaongs pledge support for Perlas

With Nicanor Perlas‘ clear platform on Indigenous People and the respect of ancestral domain he is drawing support from both Muslims and various indigenous groups. Here is an article from the Inquirer.

http://globalnation.inquirer.net/cebudailynews/news/view/20100319-259567/Aetas-2-other-groups-back-prexy-bet-Perlas

LEADERS of three indigenous groups — the Aetas, Maharlikas and Alimaongs — have pledged their support for environmentalist presidential candidate Nicanor Perlas.

“We will live and let die for Nicky Perlas,” Marlon Sayson, Maharlika for Cultural Recovery chief of management services told reporters yesterday.

The leaders, who claim he has millions of supporters in the Visayas and Mindanao, briefly met with Perlas at the arrival area of the Mactan Cebu International Airport.

Sayson, Aeta chieftain Manuel Sanger, Alimaong representative Floro Velarde, and some Cebu-based supporters exchanged with Perlas a “salute, by putting their right hands on their chests.

“This is very touching. This is highly significant. The indigenous people are the original residents of our country. They have the purity and honesty as a people,” said Perlas “I am humbled by their total trust in my candidacy.”

Perlas continued his Cebu campaign with a lecture on “Climate change and the future of the Philippines” at the University of San Jose-Recoletos in downtown Cebu City.

After his Cebu stop-over, he boarded a ferry to Bohol to meet with other leaders of indigenous groups.

Perlas, an environmental activist, is running under the Partido ng Marangal na Sambayanan. He has been campaigning without bodyguards in different parts of the country, accompanied only by a small group of supporters.

Sayson, who claims to have a following of 7 million Maharlikas from the Visayas and Mindanao – 200,000 in Cebu alone – said that his group perceives 2010 as the year for indigenous people.

He said they consider Perlas as the “final medium who would help their people.”

Velarde, who represents the Supreme Council of the Datus Alimaong, which is also called the Holy Warriors or native warriors, said there are 3 million Alimaongs in the Visayas and Mindanao.

“In Cebu, we have 25,000 members and 10 tribal councils,” he said.

Sanger, on the other hand, heads only 57 indigenous families based in Naga City, south of Cebu.

Independent presidential aspirant Nicanor Perlas, president of Partido ng Marangal na Sambayanan (PANGMASA) inagurated today in the province of Iloilo a joint project with Lifebank (Rural Bank of Maasin),Iloilio Inc. .  P3-RLAS, the acronym stands for Patubig, Patubo and Patubas Rural Livelihood Assistance Scheme, is a proactive response aimed at assisting farmers grappling with the effects of the El Niño weather phenomenon. This is a brain child of  Nicanor Perlas, the only Green presidential candidate, jointly with the Iloilo- based microfinance enterprise Lifebank, headed by its President, Dr. Vicente Perlas.

Patubig, Patubo and Patubas in Hiligaynon is roughly translated as Irrigate, Grow and Harvest.  P3-RLAS is a loan  product of Lifebank offered to farmers for the construction of artesian wells, and for the purchase of water pumps and other farm implements so they can irrigate their land during the drought season. The structural roots of conflict and the pursuit of social justice, including the equitable delivery of government social services, infrastructure, and economic opportunity will be addressed.

Perlas’s peace platform will demonstrate the government’s will for genuine peace by ensuring that the appropriate government services are delivered to the poorest provinces of the country, even before and while peace negotiations are going on.

The Muslim leaders join the growing ranks of Perlas supporters that include Partido Kalikasan (PK), an emerging national Green political Party operating in 15 bioregions nationwide  represented by  Cagayan de Oro environmental lawyer Maning Ravanera, PK Chairperson and National Leader ; Roy Cabonegro,  Secretary General of PK and Jules Penales, spokesperson of PK Metro Manila that formally  endorsed  “Green Candidate” Nicanor Perlas. The 2010 Presidentiables Blog – what is next after the elections?

January 28, 2010 11 comments

we got this interesting comment from one of this blog’s regular posters:

Estipona ng Davao :I appreciate the effort of wawam for creating this blog.Wawam gives us an avenue to express our opinions(even it is outrageous or sober)and ideas to others.Even I do not agree with wawam’s opinions,I agree to disagree with him.Let us express our opinion without slandering or cursing others,it reflects our maturity(immaturity) to face opposing views.I hope wawam will continue this blog even after its expiry date.Maybe,a blog about our new president and officials after election. How about it wawam? God bless you always.

this was our reply:

i have received similar requests and suggestions from many others. this blog will continue to be open even after the election. as others have also told me, i think we have collected here a very wide body of thoughts and opinions not only on the candidates but also on our country and what is good for our people. i think we have here by and large excellent views. they are diverse, wide and well thought of. we like to build on these good things that readers and authors have in this blog.

to be honest, because of the authors, readers and those who post comments here, the blog has exceeded my personal expectations. it has grown from a specifically marketing and advertising in politics to a much wider but pointed discussion not only on politics but good governance.

thank you again for everyone in this blog – authors, readers and those who post comments for making this a rich and uplifting experience on the net. and thank you for your suggestion and compliments.

we like to get your comments and POV.

Joey Ayala, Cynthia Alexander back bid of Nicanor “Nick” Perlas

January 22, 2010 Leave a comment

For his environmental advocacy, revered Filipino musicians Joey Ayala and Cynthia Alexander have lent their support to presidential aspirant Nicanor Perlas.

Ayala, a recipient of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts’ Fr. Neri Satur Award for Environmental Heroism, will even help compose the campaign song and participate in some of Perlas’ campaign sorties, a statement from Perlas’ camp said.

Ayala also allowed Perlas to use any of his more than 100 songs, which include the classic “Walang Hanggang Paalam.”

“Si Nick lamang ang nakakaintindi ng tunay na pakikipag-ugnay sa kalikasan at tunay na pagbabago (Nick is the only one who understands true interrelatedness with nature and genuine change),” Ayala said.

The critically-acclaimed Alexander, Ayala’s sister, as well as Tapati Tarangoy of Ayala’s band Bagong Lumad have also lent their support to Perlas.
